We’re killing the earth that can sustain us, but the earth will continue without us.

Maybe it’s depressing but I like to remember that we’re killing our species more than the earth. The earth is a system made of systems, so it’s pretty resilent. It can come back from this, but we won’t if things don’t change. And other species don’t deserve this either.

The best thing we can do is know people are doing the work and everyone can help on same level. If we let ourselves get apathetic, things won’t get better. Apathy is a result of things feeling out of our control but even small actions can help

As hard as cutting my parents was, I’m so happy with how my life turned out as a result. I don’t feel like I’m missing much because my chosen family has been there for me in all the ways family should. I’m proud to do the work to not turn out like my parents and stop the cycle

People wonder why familial estrangement seems more common but parents view any help they give to their adult kids as transactional, with the intention that help given is in exchange for total control over their adult kids well into adulthood.

It’s sad that so many relate. The sad truth is I grieve the parents I didn’t have and not the ones I lost. They kept me at an emotional distance but demanded a close relationship when I grew. I hope parents learn from this bc its a lot for a kid to go through

“Why doesn’t she move out.” In my experience, a lot of parents like this will purposely keep their children from being independent and sabotage all efforts at growing just to have control when their adult child isn’t behaving like an extension of them.

My 20 y/o daughter and my wife got in a huge fight yesterday. Wife ends the conversation by demanding daughter turn her phone in and sending her to her room without dinner. My son to my other daughter: “She’s 20. I don’t even know if what happened is legal.”

@Sue70241 I’m glad you had a mom who loved you and you felt you could take care of. Unfortunately many of us did not have that experience and our experiences are valid. I would have loved a mother like that but it’s not what I got.

@juicethot This is a sad take and might be some people’s experience. I was honored to be able to take care of my mom when she had advanced dementia. She came to live with me and I treated her with love every day of the 18 months she was with me. She never tried to control my life either.

@juicethot My Mom is one of those parents who likes to buy people random gifts or things that they might've mentioned needing - which is great until she then throws that gift in their face during the next argument.

@REDavidson3 @transspiritsoul They want the kid that cut them off to do the hard things because they’re entitled to how self sufficient I became because of them. Somehow I’m crazy but the kids that still talk to them cant be trusted? It’s really just them knowing they’re wrong and refusing to admit it

@REDavidson3 @transspiritsoul It’s just entitlement bc I’m the only girl and most independent. She spent my life calling me crazy when I stood up to her and tells people I’m crazy & she’s worried about my mental health but suddenly I’m rational enough to be their POA. It’s the opposite of respect.
