@Neilsing99 @besttrousers I say this as someone whose view of “the rental market” was until recently informed largely by scrolling thru listings every now and then thinking “there’s like nothing I’d want to rent at these prices”, but this does not reflect how me or most of my friends actually found apts

@Neilsing99 @besttrousers The set of active listings does, perhaps, represent something useful for determining what you would have to pay if you needed to rent an apartment *today* and had no flexibility on time. But this is not the typical rental search experience at all!

@besttrousers Also important, I think, is that what feels like the easiest way to correct for that bias (“just look at the listings!”) results in pretty substantial distortion even for those that think they’re being at least slightly rigorous (like I used to!)

@thechosenberg I don’t think this is true? As far as I remember the breakup (for fee) was not unilaterally exercisable, it was only available in certain enumerated circumstances. Possible I’m misremembering ofc but I don’t remember it merely being a matter of paying the fee
