Most foundational technologies (internet, advanced semiconductors, aviation, etc.) were copied or bought from the capitalist West. It optimises; it rarely invents. Third, the model is exactly what you described: it opened the economy to capitalism while keeping the political regime closed. One party, one thought (enforced by digital surveillance), censorship, social credit and re-education camps. It is efficient authoritarianism that trades freedom for growth, a deal some admire and others consider unsustainable long-term. The “communist” label is kept only to legitimise the CCP’s control. Pure communism failed in China, as it failed everywhere. What works is authoritarian capitalism with an iron fist. Calling this “victorious communism” is cheap propaganda, or selective ignorance. If Hinkle likes it so much, he should move there and test how free he is to criticise Xi Jinping in public.

Com eleições em 2009, Sócrates aumentou gastos públicos para não se notar o efeito. Resultado: défice de 9,3%. Passado um ano estava cá a Troika. Como é que não é culpa do Sócrates, mesmo?
