@Peston Depends what you call sooner. I think he’s safe until the by election and he’ll wait to do anything until after the result. If Burnham wins and stands for PM he’ll gather the necessary number of votes and Starmer will bow out at that point. If Burnham loses Starmer stays put.

I honestly believe Keir Starmer is far more popular than the media make out.
There is a silent majority out there who do not live in the Twitter bubble or are obsessed with politics.
Local elections are not a barometer of a General Election.

Nobody should be launching a coup, we need to give party chance to have a thorough discussion about what has happened, why & what’s needed now but everything has to be on agenda. Keir will need to put party & country first in judging whether he is risking opening door to Farage.

I love the U.K., a man can run around the streets stabbing people for being Jewish, and the issue people debate is whether the police officers trying to remove the knife from him used excessive force. Proof that we will do absolutely anything to avoid addressing antisemitism.

This is the point! It’s repeated often but ignored.. people still conflate anti Israel with antisemitism. I firmly believe you can be against Israel, it’s leadership, it’s land grabbing and killing but not be antisemitic. The two things are separate.
