@k9_reaper This is such a poignant, and accurate, post. In war, there is an expectation of violence, but in SA things can look deceptively "normal:" fun, sport, braais, stunning nature and wildlife. But, what is going on over there should never, ever, be normalised. Because it isn't.

Your enemy is silent, deadly and will do anything to not only harm you but also the ones that you love the most. South Africa is a perfect example of this.. where many go to sleep at night not realising that within the next few hours they will be fighting for their lives. And that's if they're lucky enough to realise that an attack is either imminent or currently taking place. We are essentially at war.. and no one is coming to save us. How many people will go to bed tonight after locking up the house and putting their kids to sleep.. only to watch their wife being raped at 03:00 whilst their attackers light a cigarette and go for round 2? Where the daughters as young as you can imagine are forced to participate, raped and then tortured.. sons begging for it to stop, only to be shot at point blank range. The father is helpless, already tied up or dead.. bleeding out slowly whilst watching all of this happen. Stories of little ones making a break for it, only to slip in the same life blood that has left their father's bodies will haunt you until your days come to an end eventually. Entering houses that are covered in blood.. everywhere. Even under beds where a member of the family thought that they would be safe.. only to be stabbed or shot where they lay. There are no safe places here and only those who carry the necessary skills and tools will make it when their turn comes. What you're experiencing isn't "normal", and it isn't "happening everywhere." Do anything and everything that you have to do in order to survive - because you are at war, and there are no rules here. Only blood.
