Sitting in the recliner in the room at the cancer center right now. First chemo treatment just started. I can't quit thinking about Jake. It's wrecking me, the thought of leaving him. My girl who came years before Jake, Anna, wrecked me when she died. I couldn't look at her picture for 3 years. Jake's perfect little heart would be broken if I went first. Many years after Anna, I was on my way to meet a litter of Basset puppies. Four weeks old. I stepped into the confined area where the litter was. Immediately, this wiggly, goofy little black and white potato teetered over to me. I picked him up and rubbed his tiny, velvety ear. He looked up at me, and gave me his heart. Like he knew I would keep it safe. "That's Stirling", the breeder smiled. Yeah, no. This boy was not a "Stirling". A month later, I was getting ready to go put my name on which puppy would be mine. I remember having a little panic attack. I was feeling disloyal. I was *Anna's* momma, not this new puppy's, whichever one it would be. I was texting with @aurora_g96. "What if I can't love him like I did her??" Dawn said don't be silly, everything will be fine. I got to the breeder's house and walked into the fenced in area where the puppies were. I looked at them and thought "how on earth do I decide who will be mine"? And again, "Will I be able to love him like I did Anna?" My eyes kept drifting to one, his tail wagging constantly, nose to the ground, on the trail of something important. He sniffed his way over to me, stepping on his ears the whole way. He stood in front of me, a chubby little paw on my foot. This wiggly, goofy little potato looked up at me. "Stirling remembers you", l heard. Of course he does, I thought, he gave his heart to me 4 weeks ago. I picked him up, buried my face in his little neck and inhaled that indescribable puppy smell. I whispered to him, "Momma loves you, Jake." He was mine. This boy. He went to give me a kiss on the cheek. He started dragging his tongue up my cheek, but it got stuck halfway, because he was lazy. So I stood there, holding him, and he sat contentedly with his mouth open, resting against my cheek. Fast-forward five and a half years. I had just gotten home from being told the most soul-crushing news l'd ever been told. I might be leaving Jake in as little as 2 to 3 years. He waddled over to me, this wiggly, goofy 75 pound sack of potatoes. I buried my face in his neck, and I gotta tell you, he does not currently have that indescribable puppy smell. The boy needs a bath 😂 I whispered into his neck, "Momma loves you, Jake". This little potato had given me his heart when he was four weeks old. What kind of a toolbag would I be to crush it? So the plan has to be that I won't. “Average life expectancy of 2-3 years". The plan is, that I won't be average.

@justtjb Peppers and potatoes too. You might find even skinned and seeded, you'll still have issues. Just avoid nightshades, basically. How you doing otherwise?

DAY 132 Interestingly, tomatoes are an inflammatory driver. Peel them and take out the seeds and you can still enjoy them! Worth it once in awhile.
