why did God send His Son to rescue us? BECAUSE as our loving Creator, He had compassion on us

@rdhasler That's right. Bible studies have their place as soul formation and directing our attention to Christ, but this is different than men having fraternity, which is typically done by building/fighting/achieving, etc.

Say what you want about the “paying for baptism” thing going on in some orthodox parishes, but it’s interesting how people are acting like this is somehow a defeater for Orthodoxy. Truth is truth, even if priests are doing something wrong, a scandal doesn’t disprove our claims

Never thought I'd ever say this, but my dad and I drove through St. Louis and I wish I grew up LCMS just so I could've gone to seminary there Mankato? New Ulm? Mequon/Milwaukee? These northern cities are depressing

A fake quote, sure, but a true sentiment. Now for something truly spicy: the church would benefit from less nerds entering ministry and more quarterbacks and linebackers.

I will continue to scream: the sacraments are the largest wall in Christianity. There is no subject that is less discussed but causes so much confusion. This is the Evangelical perspective. William Lane Craig is the highest level Evangelical apologist.

Anybody know the roots of the American Evangelical “How’s your relationship with God” question? Is it from the pietists or something?

@jwgrable2 Many of the congregations of the AALC were originally composed of Scandinavian churches. That enthnic heritage is largely lost now.

I guess I've never thought to ask, but does the AALC have a predominant ethnic lineage? I really don't know much about their history

Nobody needs "reformed confessions". Who cares about John Piper's doctrine. Who's boasting in following John Piper, a mere man? Where is that in scripture? When did Jesus Christ say to follow any man-made "confessions" or follow Luther, or Calvin, or Spurgeon, or Augustine or any of those others who are dead with their dead theology? Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. (Col 2:8) All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in Christ. (Col 2:3) Just preach CHRIST like God's Word says. Geez.

I don't believe John Piper is very clear on justification. He's confusing & contradicting at times, and he doesn't speak with the helpful clarity of the Reformed Confessions, which are a much safer guide. However, confusing or unhelpful does not mean he's heretical or heterodox.

But to the main point, it's a very interesting tic. Tell Twitter Mormons that we don't believe in the same Jesus and they'll tell you, "oh we believe in Jesus, in fact we believe more than you! We obey! Look at how kind and loving and obedient we are! How dare you say we're not Christians!" Well, my friends, if you believe that your works make you a Christian, you're just revealing that you don't know what the Gospel is.
