This is great as New York’s housing crisis is a crisis of speed as much as supply. The steps here directly address that and the fact that he is both moving decisively and committing to measurable results is a very good thing that any housing advocate should appreciate.

It’s terrible that John Fetterman opposed this move against the disastrous Iran war. Let’s also be clear that 46 out of 47 Democrats were unified against the war & almost all Republicans supported it. This war — & the inflation it’s fueling — are squarely at the feet of the GOP.

New — The Senate has just voted against advancing an Iran War Powers Resolution for the seventh time, 49-50. This time though, a Democrat was the *deciding vote.* Rand Paul, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski voted to advance it. John Fetterman voted against it.

NEW: California Gov. @GavinNewsom @CAgovernor says he’s feeling “good” and “optimistic” about the updated state budget proposal he will unveil next week — known as the “May Revision.”
Newsom: “The economy of this state is remarkable, resilient, dominant... and that will be reflected in the May Revise.”
It remains unclear whether the governor’s updated projections will show a budget deficit, surplus, or break-even, but based on my observations, the governor seems confident heading into his budget presentation.

The forces that want to destroy social security by privatizing it (a massive giveaway to Wall Street), raising the retirement age, or slashing benefits ignore the actual solution to stabilize the system: Applying social security withholding to the wealthiest. Social security running out of money is a policy choice & we shouldn’t make that choice.

So this vote means a rent freeze for two-year leases is possible. Mamdani didn’t get his tax hikes but, in an environment of rising inflation and rising costs for owners, he may well get the rent freeze on a final vote, far more important to maintaining his voter support than the more abstract tax hikes are/were.

We’re adding bike boulevards and more pedestrian space on Bergen and Dean Street, from Court Street to East New York Ave.

For too long, renters have cycled through bad owners and foreclosures. Not anymore.
A Chief Restructuring Officer has been appointed to ensure the repairs to Singh and Persaud’s buildings are made. We restrained funds from the owners’ bank accounts, which will be used by the Chief Restructing Officer to make repairs.

This week, the Supreme Court gutted the remainder of the Voting Rights Act — the culmination of decades of the Court’s sabotage effort.
This isn’t the first time. The Court did this during & after reconstruction. We must not let it get away with it.
