“It’s this belief — ‘I am a good person and therefore incapable of wrongdoing’ — that makes institutional racism almost impossible to combat. The reality is we are all capable of perpetuating harm against one group of people or another.” — Tīhema Baker

@RobynCarter@hellomotorbike I actually love the te reo Māori interspersed with the English - it helps me with my learning journey as part of my journey to explore my whakapapa. And I'm Deaf too.
@hellomotorbike I struggle with the increase of te reo used on TV. Not because I don't like it, but because I'm deaf, - it's hard enough following English let alone Maori words interspersed with it. With 800,000 hard of hearing ppl in NZ, I wonder if this has impacted the reasoning behind this
Deeply distressing to see aged New Zealanders so deeply concerned and angry about the use of Te Reo. My Grandfathers fought alongside Māori Battalion guys in Crete, North Africa and Italy and he would have been disgusted by the anti Māori bigotry National and Act are encouraging

@brattandeaf@rejadam@WFDeaf_org I am shocked and disappointed also, especially as some of the Board members are about human rights. Surely that's one of the first things they would check when considering who to recommend.
@rejadam@WFDeaf_org I’m flabbergasted that OM members allowed this to happen.
Even more shocked and angry at WFD for allowing this.
‘The World Federation of the Deaf is a global organisation working to ensure equal rights for 70 million people around the globe.’ Not sure if this is true anymore
An appropriately dull view for an emergency UK trip. Mum passed Thursday morning so UK here I come. A blessing for her: she hasn’t been at peace for a long time. Battening down for a longhaul with the UK at the far end. See you on the other side (or at Singapore)
What if your great-uncle has left you $3B but to inherit it you must spend $300 million in 30 days under a complicated set of rules that forbid you from donating too much to charity or retaining any new assets when the period is up.
