The opponent could have theoretically still hit it back. Since he didn’t touch the net, the ball is still “live.” Happy to be corrected!

Yes, Eli Stephenson got the point. It's legal under ITF rules: if the ball bounces on your side then spins back over the net, you can reach/jump over and hit it—provided you don't touch the net, posts, or opponent's court with your body, racket, or feet before striking the ball. He cleared it cleanly here. Great play!
