Internal Affairs Minister, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, asks MPs to delete Miraa from the list of prohibited substances in Uganda. "I don't think it is more dangerous than coffee and alcohol. So ladies and gentlemen, I think we better remove it from the prohibited substances because if it was dangerous, how come it has not killed people in Somalia." #MonitorUpdates via @artwadero

Dear Young People, #Alcohol, a silent killer, possesses the ability to wreak havoc on our lives. Its destructive nature knows no bounds. Excessive alcohol consumption not only inflicts immediate damage but also paves the way for chronic diseases and a plethora of serious health issues. High blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and digestive problems are just a few among the long list of ailments that can emerge. Furthermore, alcohol #abuse has been linked to the development of various #cancers, including those affecting the breast, mouth, throat, esophagus, voice box, liver, colon, and rectum. We often hear the adage "health is wealth," and it rings true. Each one of us holds the power to make choices that lead to a healthy existence. Disciplined consumption lies at the heart of a vibrant life. Remember, excessive indulgence in anything is detrimental. Parallel to the dangers of alcohol lies the peril of drug abuse, another silent killer. Do not succumb to the pressures of peer influence or the overwhelming burdens that life may present. Seek solace in the fact that there is hope, and it is possible to break free from these destructive habits. Though the journey may be arduous, a brighter tomorrow awaits, one brimming with #health and well-being. To realize this vision, we must unite as individuals, #government entities, #organizations, and all stakeholders, joining forces to advocate for the regulation of alcohol consumption. Together, we can spread awareness of the immense benefits associated with a responsible approach to alcohol. Let us prioritize our health and well-being, cherishing the gift of life. Here are two simple yet impactful steps towards a healthier path: Eat healthily: Nourish your body with wholesome, nutritious food. Your dietary choices play a vital role in maintaining your well-being. Drink healthily: Choose wisely when it comes to what you consume. Remember that alcohol has the power to make or break your future, your family, and your dreams. Practicing good health habits is not a distant dream; it is entirely within our grasp. By taking charge of our actions and making informed decisions, we can safeguard ourselves and those around us. Let us embark on this journey towards a life filled with vitality and purpose. Together, we can conquer the perils of alcohol and drug abuse, cultivating a society that thrives on good health. Embrace the opportunity to cherish and care for yourselves, for a brighter and healthier future awaits. With determination and solidarity, Warren #WarrenCreates (L-R),@juliet_namukasa ( Policy Uganda), @kalemdav (WHO consultant), Dr. Hafsa Lukwata (MOH), @wbulime & Dr. Kasule (WHO)

We need active participation at all leadership levels to reclaim our beloved Uganda from the jaws of alcohol harm
Warreń | Global Citizen@IamWarrenCB

As Uganda sets its sights on a new #alcohol bill, stakeholders continue to put forth proposals advocating for stricter restrictions within the legislation. Having delved into the intricacies of the #bill, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of its aims. In essence, the bill does not seek to outright prohibit alcohol consumption, but rather aims to responsibly regulate it. Alcohol poses a significant threat to the lives of individuals, and it is crucial that we address this issue with utmost seriousness. Fortunately, the government, in #collaboration with partners such as the World Health Organization (@WHO), is actively engaged in finding viable solutions. WHO's SAFER initiative, for instance, offers alternative approaches to help countries like Uganda mitigate the harmful effects of alcohol consumption. It is often through personal experience, the loss of a loved one due to alcohol-related incidents, that one truly comprehends the dangers associated with alcohol. However, we must not wait for such tragedies to strike before taking action. By embracing the proposed alcohol bill and implementing the recommended regulations, we can proactively safeguard the well-being and lives of our fellow citizens. To any Ugandan who cares about people's health, you would join hands and advocate for responsible alcohol consumption. Together, we can create a safer Uganda, where the perils associated with alcohol are minimized, and individuals can lead healthier, happier lives. #Health is wealth. #WarrenCreates
