BPD fucks my shit up cause how do I go from, 'life is worth living!!!! :3,' to, 'the only way I would ever be satisfied with myself is if I took my death into my own shaking, bony hands,' within about 5 minutes time.

People are also way too rigid and mechanistic about writing. There are actually very few rules and basically none you should never break. In creative writing, the effect is everything. This is why all writers should read poetry.

humans outwitting Greek Gods bc they cant directly beat them is powerscaling Gilgamesh wouldnt be great if just anyone could beat the beasts he did, thats powerscaling Moby Dick being more intelligent than a normal whale therefore making it harder to kill is powerscaling
Kirby 🏴‍☠️@comicskirby

Powerscaling is not engaging with story. It’s using minor details and fun facts to make an argument for a hypothetical scenario that you made up in your head.

adhd genuinely makes me stupid. I want to cry all the time because I know how much potential I have but my useless piece of shit brain is too weak and fucked up to harness my talents like a normal person. I fucking hate my life
julia@glitterjuj

adhd ruins my life everyday it pisses me off when people talk about it like some quirky personality trait. do you understand how horrific it is to know you have to get something done and your brain is on red alert screaming at you to do it but you just physically cant

@LIgfried @Cybren @ValdishOO @Zennistrad this entire stupid debate is just powerscaling nerds arguing in bad faith to recontextualise all forms of storytelling as being under their umbrella of expertise out of spite for what is so clearly just a fun hobby, and i'm sick of it, so i'm going to pretend you don't exist now.

@kaliidyne @Cybren @ValdishOO @Zennistrad "Importance" is the wrong perspective to begin with. Powerscaling is not value-laden. Internal consistency is something that is observed. Details allow it to add more to the story, but when ignored it's like a blank background which the figure inevitably still sits on.

@LIgfried @Cybren @ValdishOO @Zennistrad i legit don't care what the EXACT reason saitama is strong is i'm just trying to argue that internal consistency isn't as important to the story it's servicing, which is what powerscaling nerds are trying to convince people of by framing all storytelling as revolving around it!

@LIgfried @Cybren @ValdishOO @Zennistrad of course they aren't separate. plot elements can act as inspiration for stories just as much as anything, but starting *from* them (not saying OPM does) doesn't make it more important than the things it is a vessel for conveying.

if the only reason why you hate something or judge others for liking that thing is "its weird" and it doesnt actually harm or affect anybody at all, ur opinion is invalid and thats indicative of a character flaw that you should have to get over tbh

@LIgfried @Cybren @ValdishOO @Zennistrad the entire point of what i was saying is that the reason these in-universe explanations exist is because the author had things he wanted to say using them. saitama is strong not because of internal logic. internal logic was crafted to justify why he is strong.

@Cybren @kaliidyne @ValdishOO @Zennistrad In this case they're straight up imagining authorial choices and ignoring the details. The idea that authors make whatever choices they want is also fallacious to begin with, and the idea that once can bracket mechanical precision off as listless "plot" is absurd.

What's with powerscalers lately trying to paint their hobby as an actual part of critical or literary analysis?

@electric4cdc @hatsu3425 is powerscaling just *considering* the power of two characters, at all, to you? because if so, then sure, that's a thing that *happens*, but it's not the same thing as what happens in your standard powerscaling conversation, which is always a *retroactive* framing of events.

@hatsu3425 So when the author is scaling the characters' power and writes a setup to bridge the gap in their places accordingly, they aren't powerscaling?

Scalers pissing and shitting themselves whining about how no one takes them seriously will always be funny A writer making a fight make sense is not the same as what scalers do Its a fun hobby, but its in fact, NOT the most important thing in every story ever

@ValdishOO @Zennistrad and the reason he's illogically stronger than everyone is because..? there's a vastly more important reason here. a reason that the entire work hinges on, if you can believe it
