Powerscaling is so rampant within certain forms of culture that One Punch Man became incredibly popular off the back of parodying its cliches. Why are people pretending like it's just basic storytelling and not a particular (very obnoxious) way of talking ABOUT stories?

Details allow it to add more to the story, but when ignored it's like a blank background which the figure inevitably still sits on.

saitama is strong not because of internal logic. internal logic was crafted to justify why he is strong.

The idea that authors make whatever choices they want is also fallacious to begin with, and the idea that once can bracket mechanical precision off as listless "plot" is absurd.
