T-regs for the win!
Love to see immunologists win the Nobel prize.
The discovery of Foxp3 expressing T-regulatory cells has transformed our understanding of how the immune system does not attack itself.
It used to be thought that the thymus was the gate keeper. in the late 90's / early 2000's a subset of T cells were identified that help the body not attack itself.
Foxp3 is the name of the gene that was discovered that controls this lineage of T cells
T regulatory cells, today, are part of immunology's common lexicon and a frequent cell type to figure out how to harness to treat or prevent autoimmune disease.

I'm not taking a full Twitter break, but I will be reducing my time on here.
The truth is, I achieved what I set out to achieve.
We helped everyone understand how to protect themselves from COVID.
We helped explain the risk of Long COVID and established the risk from multiple infections.
We got a better vaccine approved, and thousands of people just got it around the country.
We also helped push through a better Malaria vaccine, which is estimated to impact 900 million people over the next ten years.
In the end, we were wildly successful in every way we hoped, even though at times it doesn't feel that way.
However, now everywhere I look, we have new problems that require new strategies, and I find myself only yelling at people.
Even though they deserve it, I know that's not what will fix any of these new problems.
Brace for Impact will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays...
But I don't really see a purpose in spending all my time staring at things that make me angry when I could be doing so much more.
It was never about clicks and likes for me, even though they feel like they are constantly under attack...
It was always about reaching a small group of the best people and creating change in ways others thought impossible.
And we did that.

@Welnesschick I found that not every time I got Novavax, I had the same reaction. Sometimes, I had zero reaction, once a sore arm, once a rash, which I attributed to vigorous exercise on the same day of the vaccine. Last time, I was very tired...

Distribution is absolutely widespread
across the US at this point, and most people should have no trouble finding a dose.
There are 2 additional stores in my area that have it stocked that I wasn’t even aware of, and this is what I’ve been doing essentially full time for the past week.

If you have questions about a specific area, please feel free to ask and I’ll let you know if I’ve heard anything. A few things to remember: 1. Novavax and Sanofi are not even beating around the bush here.
After ACIP’s broad shared clinical decision making recommendations (which are actually better than what we had before, despite what influencers will tell you), they’re openly advertising Nuvaxovid as a “seasonal booster” 2 months after prior vaccination.
Because they know that everyone who rushed out to get the inferior vaccine is going to want the better one by the time the holidays roll around.

Sanofi’s Novavax/Nuvaxovid webpage for Healthcare Professionals is now live: pro.campus.sanofi/us/products/nu… It includes a link to the new patient website, Nuvaxovid.com, which has not been activated yet, as well as a product locator at nuvaxovid.com/vaccine-locator, which is also not active just yet. Sanofi has told us that we can expect the locator to go live around the end of next week, but this is confirmation that we’re indeed actually getting one!

Jewel-Osco—a supermarket and pharmacy chain with 189 stores operating in IL, IN, IA—is reportedly stocking Novavax JN.1 at certain Northwest Chicago locations.
Call ahead to confirm stock. Unfortunately they don't show Novavax on their scheduler.

Alliance Community Pharmacy in Atlanta, GA has reportedly ordered Novavax JN.1 for the 2025–2026 season, although I do not have an ETA.
I recommend calling ahead to confirm availability before visiting. Please let me know if they share more info.

Prior to HPV vaccine rollout, the prevalence of the type of HPV associated w/ cervical cancer was 15-17% in Denmark. After vaccine introduction, the prevalence is now less than 1%. This will prevent many cases of cervical cancer decades from now. Vaccines work.
