Alleging harassment by faculty members, a senior resident of Government Medical College (GMC), Patiala, has claimed that postgraduate students, junior resident doctors, are being forced to perform household chores for their professors. In a video released on social media, Dr Ramandeep Singh alleged that junior residents were asked to run personal errands for faculty members, ranging from cleaning OPD rooms to dropping their children to school and even getting their cars serviced. Rigid hierarchies in many medical institutions often leave junior residents vulnerable to workplace humiliation. Juniors frequently report public scolding, verbal humiliation and being assigned excessive non-academic work, which can erode their confidence and affect psychological wellbeing. Many residents hesitate to report such experiences because senior faculty control key aspects of their training, including thesis approval, internal assessments and recommendations. @FAIMA_INDIA_ @AAPbalbir

Long queues were seen at domestic LPG outlets across Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh amid panic buying triggered by fears of a gas shortage due to the West Asian crisis, even as the Centre and state governments maintained that there was no immediate supply crunch. #LPGShortage #LPGShortSupply

Residents across Patiala are facing severe inconvenience as the shortage of LPG cylinders has led to long queues outside gas agencies across the district. People were seen standing for hours with their empty cylinders, hoping to get a refill amid the ongoing supply crunch.

Even as 70 cancer patients are dying of the disease every day in Punjab, the highest in the region, the Aam Aadmi Party govt has done NOTHING to augment cancer treatment facilities in the State. The previous Congress govt also did NOTHING. Cancer institutes in Punjab - The advanced cancer research institute, Bathinda, the PGI run institute at Sangrur & the Homi Bhabha institute at New Chandigarh, were established by former chief minister S Parkash Singh Badal. Punjab needs many more cancer institutes but the AAP govt seems to be content in indulging in fake publicity & cheap ‘tamashas’ only.

It is important to highlight the ‘administrative adjustments’ referred to by the Punjab Assembly Speaker in his post: Newspapers whose journalists have been thrown out: 1. The Indian Express 2. The Tribune 3. Punjabi Tribune 4. Punjabi Jagran
Kultar Singh Sandhwan@SpeakerSandhwan

Apart from a personal regard for Madam @kanchan99 I have always held the media in high regard for its vital role in strengthening democracy. My remarks were only meant to highlight the need for wider public awareness on important issues like the oil and gas situation. The Punjab Vidhan Sabha fully respects the role of journalists, and any administrative adjustments in the gallery should not be misinterpreted as an attempt to curb press freedom.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Sandhwan stated the media wasnt adequately informng about oil and gas crisis. His remarks came days after removal of seats allotted to representatives of prominent newspapers from VidhanSabha gallery. An act of blindfolding and gagging the media?

Around 70 people — highest in the region — died of cancer every day in Punjab last year, according to the data shared by the Union ministry of health and family welfare in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The figures revealed that nearly 25,000 people lost their lives to cancer across the state in 2025: up from 22,786 in 2021. #cancer #Punjab

As informed in Parliament, Punjab is losing nearly 70 lives to cancer every single day! A deeply alarming reality. In 2025 alone 43,196 cancer cases and nearly 25,000 people lost their lives. While I appreciate the steps by the Government — with two cancer institutes at Sangrur and New Chandigarh providing around 450 beds — the scale of the crisis demands far greater expansion of oncology services and treatment facilities. But treatment alone is not enough. We must urgently address the root causes — contaminated water, environmental pollution and excessive agro-chemicals. Punjab should not have to accept 70 families grieving every single day. @AAPbalbir @htTweets @karamprakash6

Currently, there are only four state-run medical colleges in Punjab — against seven private medical colleges having nearly 60 percent of the total MBBS seats in Punjab.

Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences in Mohali was the last government medical college in Punjab which was started in 2021 under the previous Congress government. The said medical college in Mohali had come up after a gap of 48 years. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Hoshiarpur medical college is being established under the centrally sponsored scheme for the “Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district or referral hospitals”.
