This backs up what I’ve been talking about for months. Wirtz is naturally ‘positionless No 10’ but Liverpool’s lack of technical ability/passing-progression in the first line has meant he goes into no-man’s land far too much to facilitate buildup. Maybe this is why Liverpool are favourites to sign Wharton. That’s step 1, we also need a RB to complete the project so we’re not reliant on Van Dijk to connect with the 6. Wharton splitting CBs is dependent on the opposition press, not as a default buildup structure. #LFC

Diaz isn’t better than before but he looks better at Bayern because his endless running has Olise, Kimmich, Kane passing quality to hit him earlier in the open spaces. He is better like this than when he is locked to the touch-line. Last season: 1. This role was rightly designated for Salah and 2. Liverpool only had Trent to do this to a world class level. The fit for Diaz with the other players at Bayern has been spot on perfect.
