@ShaadMcGinnis Yes. Colts have his rights for this year and the next two for $27m total. The middle ground is taking this year (4.5m) and the tag next year (~10m) and moving those guarantees up and keeping the total in that ballpark. 9m / 10m / 11m for 2023-25; guarantee the first two years.

@chip_bennett @EdwinSphere @TheDestinAdams They can do absolutely zero negotiations and get him for the current year and the next two for $27m total under the franchise tag rules. (4.5m / 10m / 12.5m). It's why there's ZERO reason to pay him anywhere near $12 - 16m AAV; the ceiling is 9m AAV.

At the end of the day it seems to come down to the #Dolphins answer to 2 questions. 1. Do you believe you are one move away from a Super Bowl? 2. If the answer is yes then is Jonathan Taylor that move? If they answer yes to both then make the move if they answer no to either move on.

If Jonathan Taylor gets traded, it being announced during a preseason game that he's on the sideline for on the anniversary of Andrew Luck retiring feels about right.

The Jonathan Taylor issue summed up: The CBA says that at worst, the #Colts can keep JT for the next three seasons for ~$27m (4.5m / 10m / 12.5m) with an annual unilateral team option. Paying him $16m AAV would be like buying a $3 Coke for $20 because you're REALLY thirsty.
