@Lincoln_Osis @allgarbled Hapa is a Hawaiian term and we always used it sort of incorrectly.
Definitely had a few Hawaiians get mad about it but we still used it anyway lol
English

@karomancer @allgarbled Half breed or hapa. I always said half breed. The half breeds anyways said hapa
English

@Shreyassanthu77 Once I figure out how to use the software yes haha

@karomancer post those fancy time lapse art making videos pls

@s4rah_dev It blows my mind how people have started to see engagement as the primary metric to achieve in life.
Some younger zoomers I know judge you as a person based on your follower count. Oh you only have 200 followers? You must not have anything of interest to say, ignoring you now.

@eeko_systems @jappleby Interesting data from 2024. GenAI has only gotten way more convincing since... I'm curious how these stats have changed!
I'm also mildly surprised how positive people are about their digital use in this survey.
Interesting thanks!
English

@eeko_systems @jappleby OO what data? I'd love to see that study
English

@jappleby You know what’s even worse?
Data shows Gen Z falls for these scams more than Boomers

My mom got totally duped by an AI drop shipping website for Christmas. She tried to purchase an AI ornament and she got a cheap acrylic keychain in the mail instead.
I told her the company is probably based in China and sure enough when she tried to return it the address was in China and they were trying to get her to pay return shipping more than the piece was worth.

@karomancer @upgyre @allgarbled Did you ever visit the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße? Apart from Vienna, that's a place I always want to revisit.
English

@sdxsdx_ @upgyre @allgarbled Honestly im not sure what the general Californian culture is. Most of my friends growing up were all of different cultural backgrounds, and we were always teaching each other about our cultures.
That's largely why I see myself as Californian
English

@karomancer @upgyre @allgarbled Ach so. But from a cultural standpoint, do you believe your way of viewing and perceiving the world differs? If yes, how (in brief)?
English

@sdxsdx_ @upgyre @allgarbled Oh I also have family in Austria so I'll visit them every once in awhile as well.
We used to go to Germany every year when I was a kid to visit my uncle and my grandparents.
I've only met my Chinese grandparents once in my entire life. My dad was kind of estranged
English

@sdxsdx_ @upgyre @allgarbled Well my mom is from Germany and I'm a German citizen, albeit I only speak at a B1-B2 level. B2 at my best but I've definitely slipped.
I go to Germany only every 2 years or so now, but I used to go more often. I usually visit family and go for festivals
English

@sdxsdx_ @upgyre @allgarbled Versus I've only been to China and Hong Kong once in my life and I speak no Chinese
English

@upgyre @allgarbled Oh and a Slovenian.
Eastern European is a different culture than white American, and even then the white guy I dated from upstate NY was very different culturally than the Scottish guy I dated and the white guy from California.
English

@upgyre @allgarbled Depends on their upbringing.
I consider myself Californian/American foremost, then German, then Chinese.
I've dated an Indian, a Cuban, and a few white guys. I don't discriminate 😅
English

@allgarbled Also I had never heard the term "wasian" until the last couple of years... We always said halfy, hapa, or Eurasian for white/asian.
Not sure why it's such a big thing all of a sudden.
English

@allgarbled Me: The current race of the Bay Area IS wasian. My high school in 2009 was 11% mixed race already, mostly half Asian half something else, and 33% Hispanic.
If you stretch the definition, Hispanic and wasian are really part of a very similar ethnic cloth. Just look at Filipinos.

@_andrewthecoder @darsh44321 @TiffanyFong IMO IQ is kind of a useless diagnostic so I'm not really sure why people obsess over it.
I guess they just need some quantifiable metric of success to make themselves feel better?
English

@karomancer @darsh44321 @TiffanyFong I will admit, it has been awhile since I have seen them! But they were around. FAR TOO MANY 150+ IQ (which statistically represents 0.04% of the population).
