Etherealize CEO Vivek Raman: "The window is now opening for ETH to be money" "The path toward ETH being money is being accelerated. The conversation isn't just Bitcoin anymore. It's becoming BTC and ETH. And I think ETH's real catalyst to being understood was GENIUS last year, CLARITY, and regulatory adoption, which means institutional adoption." Vivek shares some data points: - Harvard reduced their BTC position by ~$85M and opened a new $87M position in ETH through BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust - Charles Schwab, which manages over $11 trillion in client assets, announced Schwab Crypto which only offers BTC and ETH "The window is now opening for ETH to be money." 🇪🇺 That summer vacation you’ve been planning may not be happening… at least not for the price you expected. The latest war in the Middle East has sent fuel prices surging, and airlines are having to make decisions about which routes survive and which get cut. In the next few weeks, airports could start running dry, with London among the most vulnerable. European carriers are expected to start rationing fuel and prioritizing long-haul transatlantic flights over short-haul routes within the continent. The World Cup kicks off in North America in 7 weeks, with millions of fans planning to fly in from Europe and Asia. But the fuel to get them there is either going up or running out. The Iran war has wreaked all kinds of havoc, and that vacation you’ve been planning is just more collateral damage.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 3 issues standing between the world and a deal. None of them are close to resolved. - Uranium stockpiles: Iran called Trump's claim they agreed to ship enriched uranium to the U.S. a "non-starter." Iran wants north of $20 billion in sanctions relief to even consider it - Enrichment timeline: U.S. wants a 20-year pause. Iran offered 5 years. Both rejected the other's proposal - Hormuz: Briefly reopened Friday, closed again Saturday. 2 vessels attacked trying to transit over the weekend - Talks currently planned for tomorrow in Islamabad, but the situation remains fluid Source: CNN

The SEC's @HesterPeirce breaks down what crypto actually does in plain English: "You used to be able to send data over the internet but you couldn't send value, because I could send you value and then send the same value to someone else and say, oh look, I paid you both." Cryptography fixes that. And the SEC gets it. From: The @SECgov podcast

Over the last 48 hours: 1. Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz 2. The US claimed peace talks would resume with Iran tomorrow 3. Iran has backed out of peace talks with the US 4. Iran has accused the US of plotting a “surprise attack” 5. The US has struck and seized an Iranian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz 6. Iran has denied Trump’s claims of giving up uranium enrichment There appears to be severe distrust on both sides of the table in this conflict. Trump says “no deal” this week would be detrimental for Iran. Futures open in 2 hours.

BREAKING: New data shows that zero oil tankers have passed through the Strait of Hormuz today. It appears that the Strait of Hormuz is now completely closed for the first time in history. The US “blockade” and Iran’s closure are in full force.

Europe is in a full-blown energy crisis. In fact, Europe's energy crisis has gotten so bad that the European Commission is now recommending Europeans to work from home. They are also recommending using public transportation to cut fossil fuel use. Meanwhile, new IEA data shows that Europe has just 6 weeks worth of jet fuel remaining as the Iran War shortage worsens. As a result, many flights are expected to be cancelled on non-essential routes. Between the Russia-Ukraine War and the Strait of Hormuz closure, Europe's vulnerability to energy supply shocks has been exposed. We expect another wave of inflation in Europe.

Raoul Pal: “The entire banking system will go to ETH” Raoul explains: “I find it hilarious that 1.5-2 years ago people were like, ‘ETH is dead.’ I’m like, 'No, the entire banking system will go to ETH.' That doesn’t mean it’s a mono-chain world, but I know how banks work… It’s really for them about Lindy effects — things that survive; things that you don’t get fired for; things that are proven — because nobody wants to lose their jobs over new technology.” Etherealize co-founder Danny Ryan adds to Raoul’s point: “I had to learn this. We’ve worked for a decade to make sure Ethereum is resilient, multi-client, is distributed across the world, has 100% uptime. And I had no idea until I talked to the banks: I’ve found a customer of decentralization. They just don’t know it. They care about uptime. They care about resilience. They care about the thing that’s been around for the longest. They care about the thing that no one can turn off. You just have to translate the language to them. And yes, the ‘no one gets fired for picking Microsoft’ dynamic is very real, and it’s in Ethereum’s favor.” Raoul points to Ethereum’s developer network effect as well.

Wall Street is moving onchain. The question isn't if. It's which infrastructure wins. I sat down with @VivekVentures and @dannyryan from Etherealize to talk about Ethereum's role in tokenization, stablecoins, AI agents, and the regulatory path ahead. As ever, please enjoy!

The "Buy Now, Pay Later" crisis: 47% of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) users were late in paying their BNPL loans over the last year. This percentage has risen +6 points from 2025 levels and +13 points over the last 2 years. High-income borrowers, young adults, men, and parents of young kids are among the most likely to miss payments. This comes as 25% of borrowers now hold three or more active BNPL loans at once, driven by Gen Z and Millennials. Furthermore, 29% of users are now turning to these loans for groceries, and 20% for restaurant delivery or takeout. Transactions using BNPL loans are expected to surge to a record $687 billion in volume by 2028, from $334 billion in 2024. Americans are increasingly “fighting” inflation with more debt.

Interest on US federal debt has never been higher: In the first 6 months of Fiscal Year 2025, interest expense jumped +7% YoY, to $623 billion, the highest for this period in history. This is even higher than during the massive pandemic response in 2021, when the budget deficit was at $1.7 trillion. Over the last 12 months, gross interest expense is running at a record $1.3 trillion. As a result, interest is now the 2nd-largest spending category, only behind Social Security at $1.6 trillion. Interest expenditures are $300 billion larger than health spending and $400 billion larger than defense spending. The US debt crisis is in full swing.
