Hard to overstate how devastating this decision is. The introduction of commercial fishing is almost guaranteed to deplete existent stocks. We’re talking ecosystem collapse, and the collapse of communities that rely on these fisheries in any fashion.

An Amazon data center in Oregon went online in 2011. It has since poisoned “the deepest reaches of the local aquifer,” & is causing cancer/rare diseases. “He noticed a rise in bizarre medical conditions among the county’s 45,000 residents, linked to toxins in the local water.”

The idea that every sovereign country near Israel must cap its conventional weapons, limit its defensive capabilities, restrict missile and fighter jet ranges, and even dismantle its own military industries—just so Israel can "feel safe"—is completely absurd. Which other nation on Earth demands and receives this kind of privilege? This exceptionalism is especially ridiculous coming from a regime with such an inherently aggressive posture and track record in the region.

@katieAL @carla_denyer This table of rows of grid solutions shows, in terms of peak demand multipliers, that to do without any back-up requires wind power 7 times peak demand and 1.5 days of peak demand storage. It's possible but cheaper with some back-up power.

As we stare down these energy price shocks, we need to ask: why is the price of *all* electricity largely set by gas-fired power stations? This rigged system needs to change. Today, I wrote to Ed Miliband MP asking that we break the link between gas and electricity prices.

@AidaGreenbury More effective to donate to @MongabayID @Greenpeace or @WWF or another Environmental Charity who do huge work to end this sort of destruction. Will have more impact than not eating a few still very popular cookies.

I literally can’t even comprehend to you all how depressing this is. Tens of thousands of species to just be all gone soon in Indonesia. When will the world wake up and help them value and protect their forests, they belong to all of us! 🦧🦋❌

@bondysimon @carla_denyer No point doing that until all tax breaks and support to oil and gas are removed, and we are apparently a long way away from that

@carla_denyer In your work can you fully cost renewables which are presumably your alternative. Remove all subsidy and direct tax support and other layers of help including grid rebalancing and indeed any cost of immediate dispatch of power- regulated or otherwise. Maybe put some numbers in.
