Hard to overstate how devastating this decision is. The introduction of commercial fishing is almost guaranteed to deplete existent stocks. We’re talking ecosystem collapse, and the collapse of communities that rely on these fisheries in any fashion.

The official vote is in from W Pacific Fishery Council. Every single Pacific National Monument will be opened to commercial fishing. Longlines in Papahānaumokuākea. All fishing gear in Rose Atoll. The entire Marianas Trench reserve gone. ~80% of US protected waters abolished.

An Amazon data center in Oregon went online in 2011. It has since poisoned “the deepest reaches of the local aquifer,” & is causing cancer/rare diseases.
“He noticed a rise in bizarre medical conditions among the county’s 45,000 residents, linked to toxins in the local water.”

The idea that every sovereign country near Israel must cap its conventional weapons, limit its defensive capabilities, restrict missile and fighter jet ranges, and even dismantle its own military industries—just so Israel can "feel safe"—is completely absurd.
Which other nation on Earth demands and receives this kind of privilege?
This exceptionalism is especially ridiculous coming from a regime with such an inherently aggressive posture and track record in the region.

The oldest meat & fish markets in London, which date back 850 years, face closure from 2028. Smithfield meat market & Billingsgate fish market are to close after the City of London Corporation recently voted to withdraw support. A huge blow to independent fresh food suppliers and British food supply chain heritage.

English

@fat_samuel27 @JamesMelville @MrsBr0wn_82 What on earth would the left have to do with the City of London Corporation!
(precisely near zero!)
To the contrary, the left love protecting local cultural heritage, smaller businesses and community
English

@JamesMelville @MrsBr0wn_82 The fare left so devoted to destruction of a once great institution and heritage in name of building it back up into there own destructive image, heart breaking 💔

@Scot_Scientist @carla_denyer Only cheaper for now,.. not cheaper when wind turbine prices keep reducing and gas prices face more "volatility" like this in future...
English

@katieAL @carla_denyer This table of rows of grid solutions shows, in terms of peak demand multipliers, that to do without any back-up requires wind power 7 times peak demand and 1.5 days of peak demand storage.
It's possible but cheaper with some back-up power.

@MilkmanD123 @carla_denyer We are talking the UK here right?
"6 projects currently under development in Scotland will more than double the UK’s pumped storage hydro capacity to 7.7GW, create almost 15,000 jobs and generate up to £5.8 billion for the UK economy by 2035" scottishrenewables.com/news/1295-six-…
English

@katieAL @carla_denyer Pumped hydro is great but limited by Geography so isn't an option or very limited for most countries
English

@AidaGreenbury More effective to donate to @MongabayID @Greenpeace or @WWF or another Environmental Charity who do huge work to end this sort of destruction. Will have more impact than not eating a few still very popular cookies.

A palm oil tycoon is now even destroying Indonesia’s forests that are home to critically endangered orangutans in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the island of Borneo!

I literally can’t even comprehend to you all how depressing this is. Tens of thousands of species to just be all gone soon in Indonesia. When will the world wake up and help them value and protect their forests, they belong to all of us! 🦧🦋❌

@HelloVelorax Yes but would cost us more time and money than just using those tools
English

@saguppa @thedbeaudoin The whole pt is supposed to be to help you understand who you are talking to OUTside @LinkedIn
English

@thedbeaudoin If you add Calendly links there, or even if you say things like "I would love to meet" or saying anything that makes them feel like you're taking people away from their platform, they're nuking DMs.
English

@garmorga @danielgoyal Yes. Most MPs are not "bent", whilst yes, some are, and should be called out for it.
You stated "They are ALL bent, compromised".
This is untrue.
English

bent
1. To be dishonest or corrupt, often used in reference to a police officer.
2. To be at a stage of severe intoxication due to the use of narcotics and/or alcohol.
3. To be homosexual or effeminate in appearance or nature.
But yes, to allow other who aren't to better (lead) represent us.
English

So, as a doctor I can’t accept a plastic pen from a pharmaceutical company because it might influence my prescribing decisions, but MPs can accept thousands in cash from those who want to privatise the NHS and it won’t affect their decision-making??? CTFO

@carla_denyer To those trying to say "renewables don't work without gas on standby, Apparntly they do "Iceland nat grid essntlly 100% renewable, combo hydro geothermal, never needd gas peak units".
Denmark majority wind, balance varblty thru cnnctns w Norway Swed, lg-scale battery storg Lumo
English

@carla_denyer ..geothermal, never needed nat gas peaking units"
Denmark majority wind, balance variblty thru intercnnctns w Norway Swed, lg-scale battery storage, demand-response msrs.
Uruguay: achvd 95%+ renewable elec mid2010s fr hydro, wind, solar + modest storage w/o gas backup. -Lumo
English

@carla_denyer To those trying to say "renewables don't work without gas powerplants on standby,
Apparently they do: "El Hierro CanaryIs has operated since 2013 using wind, solar PV, pumped hydro storage that acts as a "battery". "Iceland Nat grid essentlly 100% renewable, combo hydro..."-Lumo
English

@MilkmanD123 @carla_denyer Denmark: majority wind, balancing variability through interconnections w Norway Sweden, large-scale battery storage, demand-response measures.
Uruguay: achieved 95%+ renewable electric mid-2010s from hydro, wind, solar + modest storage, w/o gas backup.
Ireland : almost.
-Lumo
English

@carla_denyer Because renewables don't work without gas powerplants on standby
English

@bondysimon @carla_denyer No point doing that until all tax breaks and support to oil and gas are removed, and we are apparently a long way away from that
English

@carla_denyer In your work can you fully cost renewables which are presumably your alternative. Remove all subsidy and direct tax support and other layers of help including grid rebalancing and indeed any cost of immediate dispatch of power- regulated or otherwise. Maybe put some numbers in.
English
