#MustRead ‼️ Every generation of Indians had one constitutional moment that defined their future. For South India, this is it. Not the Emergency. Not liberalisation. Not even the 1971 freeze. THIS Bill. THIS delimitation. THIS Commission. Bill No. 107 of 2026, 131st Amendment Bill. What’s buried inside those 5 pages will affect South India’s political future for the next 50 years. Let’s see exactly what’s written & more importantly, what’s deliberately NOT written. (1/8)

Isn't it apt to question @CMofKarnataka over failure in setting-up fast tract court to start trail on Gauri Lankesh & MM Kalaburagi cases? CM issued directive on the matter in Dec, 2023 & its still pending. On the other hand, accused are getting elected in local body polls!

Shekhar Gupta sent me word last night that my contract with The Print—where I was a columnist—will not be renewed because I called Narendra Modi a “coward” and a “curse on India”. Gupta was perfectly fine with my calling the Gandhi family “a plague on India”, but Modi apparently is too sacred a cow. It is not clear to me whether Gupta took this call or was instructed to take it. The former would be worse because it would mean that he censors those with whom he disagrees. I obviously do not want anyone else to get into trouble for my posts—which is why my Twitter page carries the disclaimer that “I speak solely for myself here”—and I don’t wish Gupta ill. The Print gives opportunities in journalism to people who wouldn’t otherwise have any. Does sustaining such an enterprise require compromise? I don’t know. What I do know is that I value Gupta’s work as a chronicler of India’s republican vicissitudes. Which is what makes his pitiful conduct rather painful. I’m sufficiently blessed not to be affected by this in any material way. I’m vaguely worried that I’ll be hassled by the authorities, but as far as work is concerned I’ve other avenues in which to publish. I’m just sorry to see a man I mildly respected reduced to cutting ties out of fear. I don’t want anybody to become a martyr—but I’d be dishonest if I didn’t admit that I’m troubled by the knowledge that Gupta is a far smaller man than I had supposed. He didn’t have the courage—or even the decency—to speak directly to me. He delegated that duty to someone else. Sad.

Respected Shri @siddaramaiah CM of Karnataka, Citizen's protests are vital for a healthy democracy as it holds power accountable, amplifies marginalized voices, leads social change, and ensures active citizen participation beyond elections, ensuring governments to address crucial issues, it also prevents complacency by challenging the status quo and demanding rights and better governance. Bengaluru is widely recognized as an activist city, characterized by a vibrant history of citizen-led movements addressing civic, environmental, governance issues, safety, protecting green spaces, demanding better public transport, making it a hub for citizen engagement in India. The past BJP govt has laid several restrictions on citizen protests since 2020 and their only objective was to mute the voices of the citizens. Congress was against these restrictions when it was in opposition, today your are in government, you also have been part of several movements and Congress party itself symbolizes movements and decent against anti-people governments. Karnataka High Court may have put a ban on protests and restricted protests to Freedom Park due to Bengaluru traffic issues. But "drunk driving is no reason to ban cars", like wise the inability of traffic police & city administration to fix traffic problems cannot be the reason to ban citizen protests in specific areas, which was permitted when you were the Chief Minister in 2013-2018. Town Hall, Maurya Circle, and key public spaces across the city brought out activists, voices, citizens, eminent names to exercise their constitutional duty and not just be called as voters. Today India is facing a challenge of Citizen vs Voters where the draconian rules and police action are marginalizing the citizen voices and restricting their views only to EVMs once in 5 years. As an activist committed to the Ideology of Congress & the Constitution I request you to lift the ban on once iconic protest locations and allow the citizen voices to be heard on ground. Decent is the essence of Democracy, and City, State, Country only thrived when citizens had the opportunity to fight for a cause, fight for the city, state, country in public spaces without being branded as anti-nationals or urban-naxals or tukde tukde gang. Modi led union government has systematically muted the citizen voices on ground, in media and in social media too, and its not only a threat the Democracy, Federalism but the very idea of India and to the Constitution. Recently Shri @RahulGandhi criticized Modi lead union government for detaining citizens who were protesting at the India Gate against air pollution demanding the government to address the very serious air pollution issue in Delhi. People of Bengaluru are citizens first and then voters, I hope you will lift the ban on protest areas and give space for the fearless voices to be heard once again. @HariprasadBK2 @SantoshSLadINC @dineshgrao @_YogendraYadav @dineshaminmattu @DrGParameshwara @Ram_Guha @kavithalankesh @BrindaAdige @thenewsminute @DeccanHerald
