SUB: Hello, Vinod Rai speaking…🚨 Fifteen years ago, the then CAG, Vinod Rai, conducted a ‘Performance Audit of Issue of Licenses and allocation of 2G Spectrum’. 📡 The Audit Report was unprecedented for many reasons. 1) It was based on a PRESUMPTIVE LOSS; it had never happened before with any CAG Report. 2) The LANGUAGE of the Report was absolutely subjective and reeked of ANTI-GOVERNMENT BIAS, providing readymade fodder for the Media to pick up the SENSATIONALISED OBSERVATIONS. 3) Vinod Rai was said to be working in tandem with BJP’s Murli Manohar Joshi, the then Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). 4) The detailed table, presenting the Chronology of Events, was also unprecedented part of CAG Reports during those days. It lead the reader towards a perception, showing Congress Government in poor light. 5) The CAG repeatedly hinted that AUCTION would have been a better route for spectrum allocation. 🛰️ 📡 Compare that with the recent news of Airtel and Reliance-Jio entering into partnerships with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring Starlink satellite services to India. 🚀 This is being done without any auction, especially after Elon Musk criticised the auction route for allocation of airwaves and Trump’s aggressive posturing for USA’s business interests. 📡 🛰️ Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Telecommunications Minister, has gone on to defend the ADMINISTRATIVE ALLOCATION of Spectrum, stating it to be in line with Indian Laws.🤣😁 📡 Both, Reliance-Jio and Airtel had pushed for auction route. But both the dominant foreign players, SpaceX’s Starkink and Amazon’s Kuiper had preferred the Administrative allocation route, citing International Telecommunication Union (ITU’s) prescriptions of ‘rational, economic and efficient’ allocation of the limited natural resource. 🛰️ This means, it was never a Nationally or International practice to Auction the telecom Spectrum‼️ But BJP did raise the hell 🪧 📢 over it with tacit support from Vinod Rai 📝 and pliant Media 📺 . All of them together, succeeded in MANUFACTURING THE CONSENT FOR BJP in 2014. 📡 Given the precedent, the CAG shall conduct the Audit of allocation of the spectrum for Satellite internet services, without the auction route. 💰 📉 It should prepare the Chronology of Events of communications between various Ministries and Departments and various Ministers, the PM included. (It should demonstrate it has similar access to the records under Modi Government ‼️) When is the CAG taking up this Audit, then❓It’s time to live by its motto - ‘Dedicated to Truth, in Public Interest.’ Lest, it risks losing whatever precious little reputation it has today.
