Dear God, Free me from anything heavy that I've been carrying in silence. Free me from anger that tries to rise when I'm just trying to stay at peace. Free me from heartache I don't speak on but still feel. Free me from distractions, delays,, and anything standing in the way of what You have for me. If it's not from You, remove it. If it's not helping me grow, help me let it go. This is my season to be free. Free in my mind, my heart, and my life. I'm claiming peace, clarity, grace and elevation. I'm claiming it all, In Jesus'Name 🙏

Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Luke 1:26-38) as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord: God Our Father, in Your infinite love, You chose the humble Virgin of Nazareth to become the Mother of Your Son. In the mystery of the Annunciation, You sent the angel Gabriel to bring the message of salvation to Blessed Virgin Mary. Full of grace, she listened with faith, questioned with humility, and responded with total trust: “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Lord, teach us to imitate her “yes.” In moments of uncertainty, give us the courage to trust Your plan. When Your will seems difficult or mysterious, help us to surrender with faith and love. O Blessed Virgin Mary, model of obedience and humility, you welcomed the Word into your heart before you bore Him in your womb. Intercede for us, that we too may receive Christ in our lives and bring Him to others. Lord Jesus Christ, eternal Word made flesh, You chose to dwell among us through the obedience of Mary. Dwell also in our hearts and transform us by Your grace. Help us to become instruments of Your presence in our families, communities, and the world. May our lives reflect Your love, and may our words proclaim Your truth. O Holy Spirit, who overshadowed the Virgin Mary, we invite You to come upon us and renew us. Fill us with Your light and strength, that we may respond generously to God’s call in our lives. On this holy solemnity, we give thanks for the mystery of the Incarnation, where heaven touched earth and salvation began to unfold. May we, like Mary, be open to God’s will, faithful in our vocation, and joyful in serving His plan. #Amen

GRADE 3 LEARNER COMMITS SUICIDE This is the heartbreaking story of Imibongo Ntamehlo, a Grade 3 learner from Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. She tragically took her own life after enduring ongoing abuse and bullying from her classmates. Reports say the kids would constantly mock her mother's situation and laugh at her for coming from what they called an "ugly home." They also made fun of her for never bringing a lunchbox to school and targeted her poverty in general. She kept complaining about the teasing, but it never stopped. In the end, the pain became too much, and she ended her life.

At what point in the Mass is someone considered “late” and therefore should not receive Holy Communion? Someone recently drew my attention to this question that has been circulating on social media. Let me begin by saying that it is a delicate question, and I will try to respond to it as carefully as possible. First, I doubt that there is any official Church document or universal law in the Catholic Church that states: “If you arrive after this point, you cannot receive Communion.” However, the Church’s liturgical tradition and pastoral teaching help us proffer a response to the question. To begin with, the Holy Mass is one complete act of worship consisting of two inseparable parts: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Together, these form a single act of worship. Ideally, a Catholic should be present from the beginning of Mass to the final blessing. Deliberately planning to arrive only in time for Communion contradicts the meaning and integrity of the Eucharistic celebration. Secondly, the purpose of the Liturgy of the Word is preparation. The readings, the homily, and the prayers dispose the faithful to receive the Eucharist properly. Missing them regularly or intentionally means missing an essential part of the Mass. That said, pastoral practice usually considers intention and circumstance. If someone arrives late because of unavoidable reasons - traffic, illness, work obligations, family responsibilities, or other genuine circumstances - such a person may still receive Communion, provided they are properly disposed and in the state of grace. The deeper principle is this: Mass is not an event we “drop into” simply for Communion; it is a sacrifice in which we participate from beginning to end. Receiving Communion without participating in the celebration weakens the meaning of the Eucharist. So, for me, the best Catholic attitude is simple: come early, participate fully, listen to the Word, offer the sacrifice with the priest, and then receive the Lord in Holy Communion with reverence and gratitude. Ultimately, the question should not primarily be, “How late can I come and still receive Communion?” but rather, “How can I prepare myself to participate in the whole mystery of the Mass?”

This message is for you: I know that you began the year 2025 with high hopes. You made many resolutions and set many goals and targets for yourself. Now that the year 2025 is coming to an end, you are probably looking back and seeing many unfulfilled resolutions and unmet goals. You are possibly not feeling happy and fulfilled. But then, life is not only measured by what was achieved or checked off a list. Some victories are invisible: the battles you survived, the temptations you resisted, the patience you learned, the faith you held onto when things were unclear. Not every seed planted in 2025 was meant to grow in the same year. This end of the year is not a courtroom to condemn yourself; it is a window for honest reflection. Learn from what did not work, give thanks for what did, and forgive yourself for what is still in progress. God’s timing is often slower than our plans, but it is always wiser. As the year closes, do not carry guilt or despair into the new one. Carry wisdom. Carry hope. Carry gratitude. If you are still standing, still praying, still trying, then grace has not failed you. The story is not over yet.

When the Rush Becomes a Risk December is a unique month. It carries a beauty and an intensity that no other month in the year possesses. As the last chapter of the calendar, it comes with a silent pressure - the feeling that we must finish everything we started. Goals we postponed suddenly feel urgent. Plans we ignored begin to demand attention. It becomes, for many, a rush-hour month. It is also the month of celebrations. Travel plans, weddings, parties - December has a way of drawing people out. Everyone wants to appear successful. Everyone wants to have something to show. Social gatherings multiply; expectations rise with them. But in this race to “meet up,” many lose themselves. The pressure to impress, to show results, or to satisfy societal expectations pushes some into unhealthy choices. People compromise values. Some take dangerous financial risks. Others enter into debts that will haunt them in the new year. And some engage in questionable activities - all because December has become a month of comparison and competition. This is the caution: your worth is not measured by what you show in December. Christmas is not a competition of achievements. There is life after December. The season is not meant to break you but to bless you. No celebration is worth your peace, your integrity, or your relationship with God. Instead of rushing blindly, embrace December with wisdom. Finish what you can, but do not destroy yourself trying to meet unrealistic goals. Celebrate joyfully, but do not pretend. Give generously, but within your means. And above all, enter the new year with peace, not pressure. Let December be a month of gratitude, not anxiety. A month of reflection, not reckless choices. A month of grace, not greed. Choose peace. Choose integrity. Choose God. Fr. Ugochukwu Ugwoke, ISch
