My assumption is the GOP will drop the motherload everyone seems to think they have the day after the primary Or they'll wait until September/October. Either way, the Auchincloss stuff is just another subplot in the larger concern that there's some very damaging shit about it – or that his character is questionable – and Democrats don't want to get too close to him, win or lose.

This is pretty notable because Shapiro has not exactly been warm toward Harris, or at least her 2024 campaign, in the intervening period. @jmart gave him a pretty wide opening to try and bury Harris, and to embrace her, he choose to do neither. The running theory that he and Politico, and others, have tried to push is that support for her behind the scenes is tepid at best, dead at worst. I think it says something pretty interesting that an ambitious Dem like Shapiro won't take this golden opportunity. Either the anti-Harris "consensus" among the elite/consultant class of the party is far weaker than advertised by the political media, or her coalition remains strong enough that crossing it carries a real cost. Either way, that doesn't point to someone who is politically dead. The fact that this question keeps being asked is proof enough of that.
