@keltyb1094 @OJEN_ROEJ Does saltfleet have a twitter account? Maybe a mention to stir things up?!

@Emilyloveslaw @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Respectfully, I never disagreed with you on that fact. I mentioned section 11, which is freedom to a fair trial.
English

@keltyb1094 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Respectfully, it can be argued that live broadcasting falls under section 2b of the Charter #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

I have a question for everyone. People are saying we need cameras for transparency to trust the justice system. Is this putting transparency above the protection of innocence? Wouldn’t we be losing trust when they wrongfully convict anyways?
English

Everyone who’s pro cameras knowing the media will influence trials #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw

@Emilyloveslaw @OJEN_ROEJ Sure, but we’ve seen the negativity and humiliation innocent people have faced. Don’t you think an accused should be protected for something that affects their whole life? twitter.com/mhzbinh/status…

Journalists provide reliable information, and transcripts are also released to the public; people have more than enough opportunities to learn about a trial. @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw #OJENROEJFA22

#OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ I believe live broadcasting should be permitted in Canadian courtrooms because they are already open to the public and all court documents are public record anyways.

@OJEN_ROEJ Having some thoughts RN about the people who enter a trial for a crime they did not commit, are found INNOCENT by the judge and jury, and never escape the public scrutiny they faced because their trial was broadcast live (guilty in the public court). Hmmm 🤔

#OJENROEJFA22 Having some feelings RN about whether the more we become immersed in media, the more we confuse public shaming with genuine justice?

Cameras shouldn't be allowed in Canadian courtrooms because you shouldn't have to have your face broadcast to the country if you don't want it to be. Everyone should have the right to privacy, criminal or not. Public shaming doesn't deter crimes. #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

@julian38257457 @ProvostLaw @OJEN_ROEJ What leads you to believe your rights trump the rights of those involved in the trial?
English

@ProvostLaw @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJFA22
As a Canadian, the ability to view trials is a right as mentioned under section 2)b under our Charter of Rights. "..., including freedom of the press and other media communications".
English

#OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Section 11(d) gives us the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. I find it very hard to believe the media will uphold this guarantee. If there’s a man on tv in an orange jumpsuit, you’re going to expect a guilty verdict.

#OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Imagine personal and traumatic details of your life being on somebody's TikTok For You page. Or finally being freed from the burden of a wrongful conviction to find yourself trending on twitter. Keep cameras out of the courtroom.
English

#OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw
Allowing trials to be videotaped contradicts some of the most basic principles of our charter. Section 15(1), Section 7 & Section 11(d) are all pillars of our charter. By allowing cameras in the courtroom all of these rights are trampled on
