THE THREE NEXUSES OF GENETIC WHITENESS 🧵 Here is a map showing the three European subraces that I personally think have the best claims to the title of being the genetically Whitest. I think of them as West, North and East Aryans. The subrace that is the Whitest depends on what is considered the most important criterion in quantifying genetic Whiteness (purity, raw north-shiftedness, steppe ancestry or similar). The peoples of the British Isles are set apart from continental populations by the size of their genetic inheritance from the Bell Beakers. This is why I decided to call them Beaker Folk, even though most British Islanders also have substantial continental Celtic and Germanic ancestry. Beaker Folk are the most purely European peoples on earth today. They descend pretty much exclusively from the three Cardinal Races of Europe: the Anatolian Neolithic Farmers, the Western Hunter Gathers and the Western Steppe Herders. The same is mostly true for continental Celtic populations, but Beaker Folk are more north-shifted, which gives them a better claim to Whiteness in my book. Scandinavians (as well as Icelanders, North Germans and Frisians) are the most genetically Germanic peoples on earth today. Germanics generally descend from the Corded Ware Culture as opposed to the Bell Beaker Culture, which sets them apart from their neighbours across the North Sea. In general, modern Germanics are more genetically north-shifted than modern Beaker Folk and occupy the most northerly end of the Western European genetic cline. However, it should be noted that on the northeastern peripheries of the Germanic world, there is some Uralic admixture, which is non-European in origin and therefore a mark against the genetic Whiteness of the individuals carrying it. This admixture, while quite pronounced in certain areas (like northern Sweden and Norway), is far from ubiquitous. In conclusion, if you just want to find a Northwest European without detectable non-European ancestry, you should probably go to the British Isles, but if you care about north-shiftedness/steppe ancestry in addition to purity, your best bet is to go to Scandinavia. Lastly, we have the Balts. When it comes to north-shiftedness, nobody can out-White the Balts (except maybe Finnic peoples like Finns and Estonians, but a non-European genetic contribution is fundamental to their ethnogeneses, so I don't consider them valid candidates for Whitest people). As far as I know, the jury is still out on whether this north-shiftedness is due primarily to elevated steppe ancestry, high WHG ancestry or excess EHG-related ancestry, but in any case, it is clear that Balts have a very large amount of WHG ancestry and a very low amount of ANF ancestry. Due to historic Uralic migrations to the area, the Siberian Y-haplogroup N is very widespread in modern Balts, but autosomal Siberian ancestry is quite limited. Among the three candidate subraces, Balts rank third in terms of purity, first in terms of raw north-shiftedness, and probably either first or second in terms of steppe ancestry (slightly behind Germanics if second). If trace Uralic ancestry is not a concern and all you want is to find a ~97-99% European individual with as little ANF ancestry as possible, definitely go to the Baltics. If trace Uralic ancestry is a concern, I would advise against it. To summarize, Beaker Folk are the purest on average, Germanics are the most north-shifted peoples where pure individuals are commonplace, and Balts are the most north-shifted people overall.

Finally getting around to qpAdm, apparently the most accurate admixture analysis available to laymen. My personal DNA file is low coverage but I appear to safely be in the 50% Steppe, 50% Insular club. Hail Calgacus, hail our people

Ancestry in Bronze and Iron Age Britain (Gretzinger 2024). The EBA population was more uniformly ~57% Proto-Indo-European. Later waves from the continent introduced additional Neolithic Farmer ancestry and variation in the Celticized tribes. Less change in Scotland.

Sad that so many in this thread have so little understanding of our history and our genetics. We have at no point in history been referred to as “Celts”. Our Bryhtonic ancestors assimilated to a Germanic culture and became English and the Germanic ancestry component is larger than the Brythonic component in the most populace regions of England. Unless you are Cornish, Cumbrian, Northumbrian, or from Shropshire, then no you do not have more ancestry from Iron Age Britons compared to Anglo-Saxons. And with the exception of Cornwall, all those counties have regarded themselves as English for over 1000 years anyway

Sorry Paul, but you have not studied properly. If you match up the admixture figures from the supplements of the biggest and most accurate study of the subject, then it is clear that the Germanic ancestry is the largest single component for English people in the most populace regions.
