So Downing Street have ‘clarified’ that the £60m is still on the table according to @BBCNews - did Johnson ‘misspeak’ yet again then??

Quite a moment as Andy Burnham is shown the government’s £22 million offer on live TV.

Johnson repeatedly said at press briefing they couldn’t give £60m to Greater Manchester as it wouldn’t be fair to Liverpool/Lancashire. Why did they offer it earlier today then? Either it wasn’t fair then (but they didn’t care) or it was fair then (so why isn’t it fair now?)

Eat out to help out cost £522m apparently. Clearly it would be ‘unfair’ to support the people of Manchester with £65m. Or even £60m. google.co.uk/amp/s/inews.co…

He doesn’t give a flying fuck presumably. Used to getting away with petty, punitive behaviour with no comeback, no repercussions. And the £60m has been removed from the table; that’s what I understand from it
(((Dan Hodges)))@DPJHodges

I simply cannot understand what Boris thought he was going to achieve with that press conference. If the £60m is still on the table, why not just say so. Why leave the impression you’ve just deliberately shafted every man, woman and child in Greater Manchester.

Nandy: "We were told £22m is for test and trace, not a single extra penny promised to help businesses & minimum-wage workers. The government appears to be waging war on the people of Greater Manchester. I grew up under Thatcher but I've honestly never seen anything like this."

Right, if I understand this correctly, Andy Burnham embarrassed the government for trying to lock down Greater Manchester with insufficient financial support... So the government is retaliating by.... slashing support yet further so that more people in Manchester die of Covid? 🙃

@kemp205 @liebshen15 @AndyBurnhamGM I hope the PM shows himself for the true vindictive nasty person he is, PM certainly won’t give Greater Manchester 60million because AB made a stand against Govt. PM only likes yes people without questions. That’s why the country is a complete mess. 😡😂

Shouting at press briefing as usual. Seems govt offered G Manchester 60m support, G Manchester said they need 5m more, govt said no, is imposing restrictions anyway and *withdrawing* the 60m. Seems like a punishment to @AndyBurnhamGM for standing up to the government. Appalling

‘The dispute was due to be played out in court. It would have meant a public examination of the accuracy & speed of the testing system at a time when it has come under serious criticism’. Government to pay £2m to settle coronavirus testing case bbc.co.uk/news/business-…
