A federal judge dismissed a Brightline railroad lawsuit that, if successful, would have invalidated workers' successful vote to unionize. “This is a huge victory for the workers and the TWU,” @TwuSamuelsen said. “Brightline should finally realize it has reached the end of the line. The railroad’s multi-year attempt to silence its workers and deny them the right to negotiate for fair wages and benefits, has been nothing short of shameful." Union leaders and members gathered today to honor the memory of veteran Maintainer Helper Stephen Livecchi, who died in a tragic accident on this date in 2018 while directing bus traffic at the College Point Depot. Brother Livecchi was a beloved mainstay of the depot with 37 years on the job. He was 59 years old. In 2019, the Union unveiled a bronze memorial as a piper played. The plaque is near the entrance to the depot on 28th Avenue. After today’s remembrance at the site, President John Chiarello led a shopgate for MTA Bus members, along with PBL VP Danny D’Amato and other union officers.
