Very important point for all the states giving special treatment for seniors on property taxes. They will then be able to pay even more for homes on the market since they get a special discount just for being older. Reason #87 for why you see more young adults lean into socialism

So everyone understands that exempting seniors from property taxes means their monthly housing costs go down that amount, which therefore frees them to pay more for even better homes and/or outbid others on lower effective costs for the same home, right?

San Francisco city government raises the price of the building dept report called the “3R” by 32.5% from $286 to $379 The city requires all homeowners or developers to purchase this report from them when selling their home, in addition to paying hefty transfer taxes of 1% to 6.0% It’s a report that just shows the public records of the house and should be available for free Not a huge expense compared to the price of a house, but a good example how despite all the rhetoric of lowering fees and making housing easier, the on the ground reality shows no indication of that
