I am astounded by the amount of people who won't say England will win this world cup. Yesterday it was France. Now it's all Spain. Tomorrow "Argentina will be too strong for us". Nobody fucking knows who will win it. Why are we some flukey outsiders? We are in the last 3.

In the 60 years since their World Cup victory in 1966, England have still only won ONE knockout game, in either the World Cup or the Euros, against a higher-ranked team: Spain, on penalties in 1996. They've won an average of 0.78 knockout games per tournament they qualified for.

@WingsScotland Yep. Can’t disagree with you on that either but I don’t think that’s entirely the reason why we haven’t won. Club attachment is historically higher/stronger than national attachment for many of our players, that’s not the case for some countries, say like Norway.

@WingsScotland I can’t disagree with you. We lost one of the euro finals on penalties too 😂, but both those recent finals were to higher ranked opponents. Btw Germany has a bigger pop than England, about 25M more. The country I do feel for is Belgium, no 1 for years and won no big tournaments.

@WingsScotland Is it under achievement to lose to a so called higher ranked team? I wouldn’t say it was. I can’t disagree with you about the country’s record on penalty shoot outs, it’s pretty poor but losing a penalty shoot out is quite different to losing a match during f/t or e/t.

Et veldig godt poeng som blir belyst her. Om vi kun skal stole på autoriteteter og ikke våre egne øyne vil vi ikke kunne være trygg på hva som er rett og galt. Kampen er nå over og England får ha lykke til i neste kamper, men jeg sitter igjen og tenker at VAR ikke er en naturlig del av hva spillet fotball er. Skal man løse dømmingen bedre er det nok greit å se til andre sporter for å se hvordan de løser dømming. Eller så kan vi gå tilbake til den gangen vi alle ble glad i fotball med 3 dommere. For hvem elsker vel ikke å hate en dommer, men kan ikke fordra å bli misbrukt av et system man ikke har innsyn i.
