We borrow money to pay interest on money we already borrowed, and now that the bill exceeds the entire defense budget, it's absurd. My Penny Plan fixes this by cutting just one cent from every dollar spent and will balance the budget in 5 years. forbes.com/sites/dougmelv…

No one knows what Trump is thinking or what he will do. He has never been one to be afraid to back off even after he draws a public red line. This isn’t a case like Obama where the world knew his red line was meaningless. Trumps red line only exists in his head and nobody knows when they’ve crossed it. Of note, last time Trump was negotiating and moving our ships into the region the moment he felt the talks didn’t go his way he launched an attack. Now that he is negotiating again while ground troops are getting deployed to the area should we expect the entrance of ground troops? Who the hell knows? No one.

I’m old enough to remember when @realDonaldTrump said we’d “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if it didn’t reopen the Strait by, umm, Monday night. I don’t know what he’s doing. Neither does Iran. Neither does he. But every day we lose more credibility with China and everyone else
AdamG@AdamGUNC

All the rich people I know love living in places with HOAs. No broken down boats. Rainbow yard signs. Grass 2 feet tall. Lack of weed control. Broken fridge on front porch. Broke people hate HOAs because they hate doing basic things to make their houses look nice.

@AlexBerenson The last time he told them to make a deal and our ships were already headed in that direction he attacked. Now he wants them to make a deal and 3,000 ground troops are being deployed. I sense a pattern.

Maybe private companies that contract with the government. But not private companies in general. Companies that contract with the government only take what the government will give. They know there is little oversight and it's easy to keep escalating costs because the government pays with other people's money. The rest of your post proves that government sucks at everything especially oversight.

The big lie of “gov sucks at everything “ , is that they suck the most at enforcing performance and costs. You know what’s worse than the gov running a service? Private companies knowing that the gov entities they contract with can’t do shit to stop them from fucking up everything and making a fortune. I’m not saying this applies to every private company. Many do have ethics. Not all. And as an entrepreneur, it’s embarrassing to us all. Need proof ? Look at the Noem ad contract. Look at healthcare. Taxpayers provide 70pct or more of the revenue of the largest insurance companies. Those same insurance companies get fined and found liable for ripping off taxpayers, again and again and again. And they still get to do business with the gov, knowing they can effectively steal money from us all. The fines are a nuisance. And this is healthcare. When they lie, people die. Maybe when we are smart enough to pass laws saying that gov contractors get one mulligan. Two fines from any government entity and you are blacklisted from Gov contracts at the state and federal level for 10 years. That’s when things will change Until then the concept of privatization of gov services like the tsa or post office or .. is just a license for a private company to abuse taxpayers and face next to no consequences.
depressivehacks@depressivehacks

Mark, why do you think government intervention into the free market is the answer here over an economic solution? I would argue that there is too much government intervention in healthcare and insurance, which has led to a lot of the costs being driven up in the first place. The fact is that if there was a more direct relationship between customers and cost, prices would decrease. Nobody is paying six figures out of pocket for their medical expenses. The only reason those expenses remain so high is that insurance companies boost the market rate and inflate costs. Certainly, I am not advocating for people to not receive essential care that they need to survive, but from a market philosophy perspective, I can't see how more government intervention leads to anything but exacerbation of the outcomes that they themselves have gotten us into to begin with.

I don't like what's been happening either. But this may not turn out to be the loser people think it will. China has been put into a crunch after Venezuela and Iran. China's defense systems turned out to be junk. Whether they sold only junk or their tech is junk won't be known for a while and China now has combat data to learn from. Europe is exposed as feckless and sclerotic. They're relatively ineffectual on the world stage. Iran is proven to have capabilities not previously known. It's like the thin veil of world stability has been pulled off. Yes, we're not as strong as we portray. But, if any nation is in position to come out of this on top it's us or China. The new Tri-polar world order is the US in the western hemisphere and North Atlantic with Europe as the annoying older sibling, Russia dominating eastern Eurasia, and China dominating most of Asia. Africa is the odd man out waiting for powers to collide.

@AlexBerenson If he neither knows nor cares, why is he taking action to cause our allies to support opening the straits of Hormuz?

@OverlyTrev @wfcollins @MichaelTGlynn No one drives to get gas unless they're preparing for a trip the next day and want to top off the night before. Other than that everyone just stops along the way when they need to. Zero out the drive time to a gas station.

You have to leave your house to get gas no matter if you’re also running errands or not. But let’s eliminate that. You still have to take time to pump your gas and get oil changes which EV owners do not for home charging. It takes me seconds to plug in at home. And then it charges while I sleep. I’m saving more time.

There is a huge misconception when people claim it only takes 5 minutes to fill up a gas tank versus charging an EV. Here are the key considerations: 1. The typical time spent at a gas pump is 8–9 minutes, but it varies: - Circle K: 8.9 minutes - Sheetz: 11.5 minutes - Wawa: 11.4 minutes - Buc-ee’s: 20.3 minutes 2. Filling up requires driving to the station, which can take 10–45 minutes depending on your location and the nearest station. 3. Oil changes and maintenance take time and money (even if you do them yourself, you still have to buy oil and perform the work). EVs eliminate this entirely. 4. Home charging takes seconds to plug in, and you wake up to a full charge the next day. 5. In March, I spent $9 on electricity while current gas prices are $3.49/gallon—a savings of over $60 in fuel for the month. 6. Adding up time and money saved over a year comes to roughly 15–30 hours and over $750, and I don’t even drive that much. EV’s save you time and money and once you have one you’ll never go back to gas.

My son recently gave his 2 week notice at a retail job he is working. The manager told him his last day would be in a week and that 2 week notice is not customary in retail. My son is pissed because he was counting on the week’s wages. I’m surprised. Is this standard now?

@AnnCoulter It’s clear Tulsi didn’t think Iran was an imminent threat. But she is also correct that the intelligence agencies convey information and assessments and the President and the Joint Chiefs determine if they believe it constitutes something imminent.

Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief. As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat, and whether or not to take action he deems necessary to protect the safety and security of our troops, the American people and our country.  The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best information available to inform his decisions.  After carefully reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat and he took action based on that conclusion.

Everyone wants me to rip on TrumpRx. Reality is, it’s saving patients money on IVF and a few other drugs. A lot of money. IMO, anything that saves patients money is a win. And they truly do have some great people that are making smart moves. You just don’t know their names. Chris Klomp. Mark Atalla, Abe Sutton and so many more. When you talk to them, and see the work they put in, it’s obvious they are focused on trying to do the right thing for patients. Don’t forget they didn’t give the insurance industry a price increase they wanted, and those stock prices got crushed. TrumpRx is just getting started. @costplusdrugs is just getting started.

Americans are furious about drug prices. The Trump administration’s answer? A new website. But more than a month after its launch, the site, TrumpRx.gov, remains small — offering discounts on just 54 prescription drugs. nbcnews.com/health/health-…
