Lying was an epistemological impossibility when Sanskrit evolved. There were no dictionaries. So all Sanskrit words are descriptions and convey what their constituent वर्ण/अक्षर mean. Describing things differently was not possible. Sanskrit credo crystalized in this era.

वि : Object(speak) = spoken = alternate-to-real.
वि as opposed to सन and प्र.
This is the root difference between विभाषा, अन्यतरसयाम् and वा.
विभाषा means different only in speech.

@sadhavi The root is "desire" (तम domain). This is beyond science. that root splits into two sub-branches - desires pertaining to other living beings (रज-relationship world) and desires pertaining to non-living things (सत-material world)
Only the material/सत world is the domain of science

Even so, brāhmāṇa-s are strictly forbidden from drinking alochol by dictates of śāstra. Expiation is very strict - death by pouring hot wine.
Even when using as offering, viprajana-s should refrain from consumption. Very few exceptions to this rule.

Bs, alcohol is one of the pancha-makara, which are mandatory offerings in vamachara tantra (practiced in Assam). No tantric ritual (in vamachara) dedicated to Kali and Bhairav can be undertaken without the offering of liquor.

@kojAnAti @pathaspati अ-ब्रम्ह religions had lost heritage from पूर्वजs and had to make their शास्त्र diktat based as a result. Their belief that their forefathers were dumb and sinned could have arisen from loss of पूर्व अनुपूर्व शास्त्र.
This belief about ancestors is a fundamental difference.
@kojAnAti @pathaspati In अ-ब्रम्ह religions शास्त्र are diktat from God, शास्त्र of ब्रम्ह traditions are words of पूर्वज. They are preserved as a time capsule, not eternal truth.
You don't change them but you can disagree and add your views.
"मा शुच" & "यथेच्छसी तथा कुरु" can and do coexist.

To me message is - Drink to relieve from बंधन but fermented intoxicants is last choice as you have to drink गोमूत्रमग्निवर्णं to manage hang over.
That interpretation is equally valid.

Conversely, the reason why AA has its brevity and level of sophistication is incorporation of MS.
We say हलन्त for the sign of consonant endings and even that is simply हल् + अन्त।
