Natural molecule CaAKG restores early memory in Alzheimer’s models—aging brain hope? Researchers at the National University of Singapore have discovered that calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (CaAKG)—a naturally occurring metabolite already present in the human body—shows remarkable potential to safeguard the aging brain against Alzheimer’s disease. In laboratory models of Alzheimer’s, CaAKG significantly improved communication between neurons and revived early-stage memory processes that typically deteriorate with age. It enhanced synaptic plasticity, the brain’s essential ability to form and strengthen new connections, which is vital for learning and long-term memory and is severely impaired in Alzheimer’s. The compound also boosted the brain’s natural autophagy process, helping cells clear out harmful, damaged proteins that accumulate and damage neurons over time. Importantly, the researchers identified a novel pathway through which CaAKG works: it activates specific calcium channels and receptors to increase neuronal flexibility, while avoiding disruption of other pathways often affected in Alzheimer’s. The molecule successfully restored synaptic tagging and capture—a critical mechanism that allows the brain to link events and form associative memories, one of the earliest cognitive functions lost in Alzheimer’s disease. Since alpha-ketoglutarate levels naturally decline with age and CaAKG is already a safe, endogenous compound, the team believes it or similar “longevity” molecules could one day complement current Alzheimer’s therapies. Rather than merely managing symptoms, these compounds may target the underlying biology of aging itself. While the results are highly encouraging, they come from experimental models. "get a co-founder" is the worst advice for a founder in web3 i did he took the code, the profits, and vanished left me with nothing but regret here's my story: i started VibeConnect alone in early 2025 a non-technical founder with zero code skills all i had was vision and frustration with how web3 social felt fake and gated i started vibecoding every night after my day job: sketching features on Notion building clunky no-code prototypes on Bubble + WalletConnect posting progress threads on X hoping to find my tribe it was a lonely grind zero users, endless bugs but the vision kept me going: a space where people connect without performative gm spam then came ryan met him through one of my threads i posted: "non-tech founder drowning in solo dev hell. need a Solidity dev who actually ships." a mutual tagged him: "this is your guy" ryan dm'd same day: "i've built 3 protocols. let's talk." we hopped on a call and clicked immediately he was a smooth talker went on about his achievements and frustrations with web3 we had the same vision or so i thought he had the tech i lacked: smart contracts, frontend polish i brought the community hustle we agreed fast: 50/50 split shared repo no heavy legals felt like the breakthrough first few months were magic he'd push code updates overnight i'd run community AMAs, grow our waitlist from 50 to 500 we hit testnet launch first users onboarded treasury started stacking from early supporters (~$30k in fees/profits) things were going so smoothly roadmap clear vibes high late-night calls laughing about how far we'd come from my janky prototypes betrayal never crossed my mind then the shift small at first missed syncs, blamed "focus issues" arguments over nothing: "why change the UI color now?" "your marketing threads are too hype, tone it down" avoidable stuff that escalated fast i tried to talk it out he'd get defensive, go silent for days i thought it was burnout web3 chews people up kept pushing forward ignored the red flags more cracks: he'd push back on transparency: "why share wallet access? trust me" snapped over any suggestion i made fights became weekly ego clashes that drained us both still, we kept shipping treasury grew to $80k+, code solid, users loving the beta i convinced myself the tension was temporary then the rug woke up one tuesday to: •repo access revoked •multisig drained •treasury gone ryan's profiles deleted X gone, discord ghosted no response to calls/texts he'd forked the code weeks earlier (quietly) rebranded it and launched his "solo" version on the same chains took the profits the IP everything we'd built together left me with month-old backups and a community asking "where'd the funds go?" i'm still trying to recover some days i don't think i ever will i lie in bed replaying how we met wondering if things would've ended differently if i hadn't: •trusted too fast •documented too little •ignored the vibes when they turned sour or if i'd just stayed solo i don't know my friends and family are worried about me scared i'll do something if i isolate so i moved back home last month this is my life now and this is why i say: "get a co-founder" is the worst advice for a founder in web3 (scar-story sample crafted by @thedancingink)
