Western revisionism is so powerful it’s entrenched in your psyche. Being challenged triggers a fight or flight response. It’s ok, I was upset too when I found out Santa wasn’t real.

People keep calling the Odyssey and ancient Greece “Western heritage” as if they emerged from a western European or even European world. But the modern “West vs East” divide did not even exist yet. Ancient Greeks did not see themselves as “westerners.” They were one civilization among many in the interconnected eastern Mediterranean world alongside Egyptians, Phoenicians, Anatolians, Cypriots, Levantines and Mesopotamians. And the evidence for this is everywhere.

Is there a reason why both Gandalf and Aragorn (in the books) seem to be unable or unwilling to use their full power?
Gandalf the White is not shown, in my memory, to go “all out” on the villains. I also don’t recall Aragorn being shown using Anduril in battle. He brings Anduril into battle, but is not depicted using it.

@dccommonsense if you want to truly make progress on this issue, call out the actors by name. but you won't because your tribe would be at fault. i know many conservative are still calling for transparency even to the detriment of those now in power. otherwise, we all continue in decline.

An obvious point: without government and official secrecy so much of what we are dealing with doesn't happen. We as citizens are more endangered by our own government's secrecy than any danger than might arise were those secrets exposed. Sunlight really IS the best disinfectant.
