@RobSchneider They’re voting to fully become a Russian puppet state or remain free. And despite Lavrov’s best efforts and Orban’s payoffs, it looks like freedom is winning.

Hungary is going to be VOTING to EITHER STAY out of the Ukraine war or get sucked Into it!
Zoltan Kovacs@zoltanspox

🕊️ @PM_ViktorOrban: We owe Ukraine nothing beyond what we have already given. This is not our war. Hungary will stay out, protect its peace, and ensure that Hungarian sons are never sent to fight in Ukraine.

Kremlin-backed bots have begun circulating videos about “an assassination attempt” on Viktor Orban. The staged incident was part of a secret plan by the SVR The “Matryoshka” disinformation network, linked to the Russian authorities, has begun circulating videos on the social media platform X about an “alleged coup being prepared in Hungary” in the event of a victory by the ruling Fidesz party in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as preparations for “an assassination attempt" on its leader and Prime Minister Viktor Orban, @antibot4navalny told the “Agentstvo”. On Saturday, The Washington Post reported on a proposal by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) to stage an assassination attempt on Orban to ensure his and Fidesz’s victory in the elections. Details. The first video containing information about a possible assassination attempt on Orbán was published on March 17. The video, attributed to Deutsche Welle, states that “a group of Ukrainian refugees sustained fatal injuries in Hungary while attempting to detonate a homemade explosive device near Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s office.” Thanks to inflated views, the tweet with the video garnered about 100,000 views. ▪️Two days later, a video bearing the logo of “Television and Radio Moldova” (TRM) was published, falsely claiming that Hungarians were receiving messages from Ukrainians “calling on them to take up arms, resist the authorities, and kill Orban.” Another video bearing the logo of the Ukrainian media platform United24 falsely claimed that Oleg Tatarov, deputy head of the Ukrainian president’s office, had called on Hungarians to “vote with their blood.” The video also reported that Tatarov had called on people to take up arms and achieve “the liberation of Hungary through bloodshed.” The tweet garnered 23,000 views. ▪️One of the videos published on March 20 (the tweet with the video garnered 24,000 views) falsely claimed that Yevhen Khmara, acting head of the SBU, had posted Orban’s personal information on X, including his addresses, with the call to “Take action.” The tweet stated that “Ukraine seeks to spread the flames of bloody revolutions across Europe, starting with Hungary.” ▪️Matryoshka’s videos also mention that “Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he could pass Viktor Orban’s phone number to the Ukrainian military,” and that Bellingcat founder Eliot Higgins allegedly accused the SBU of preparing a “plan for a violent seizure of power in Hungary.” ▪️A representative of the “Bot Blocker” project said that he had not previously encountered threats of a military coup in “Matryoshka” if a pro-Kremlin candidate won the election. “In the case of the U.S. presidential [election], there were only threats of unrest from those who did not recognize Trump’s victory. In other election [campaigns], it seems there wasn’t even that,” the project representative wrote to the “Agentstvo.” ▪️Matryoshka accounts began posting videos related to the Hungarian elections on March 13. Starting March 19, the elections were mentioned in all videos. “Based on the experience in Moldova and Armenia, this is one of the best indicators of the campaign’s objectives,” wrote a representative of “Bot Blocker.” SVR Proposal. On Saturday, the WP, citing an internal SVR report, reported that Russian intelligence was concerned about Orban’s falling approval ratings and proposed a way to “fundamentally change the paradigm of the election campaign” by “organizing an assassination attempt” on the prime minister. ▪️According to documents reviewed by the WP, the plan included creating videos using AI and spreading disinformation on social media. ▪️It is unclear at what level within the Russian leadership the SVR’s proposal was reviewed. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the publication “an example of disinformation.” Context. Elections in Hungary will take place on April 12. In early March, the publication Vsquare reported that three GRU officers had arrived in Budapest posing as diplomats, tasked with influencing the elections and ensuring Orban’s victory. The campaign plan was approved by Vladimir Putin, the Financial Times reported. ▪️Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has made 16 official visits to Moscow, the most recent of which took place on March 4. In addition, as one European diplomat told the WP, Szijjarto regularly called Sergey Lavrov during breaks in EU meetings to provide him with “operational reports.”

Absolute desperation. The US is deploying slow, unstealthy Cold War-era A-10s to the Strait of Hormuz to fight fast attack boats. These planes are sitting ducks for Iran's advanced air defenses. The Pentagon is sending pilots on a suicide mission.

Can the U.S. and Israel succeed in Iran without allies? "No," says former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. "There's a sense that we are not a reliable security partner right now...And you can't bring allies on board if they don't trust you."

There's lots of discussion here on whether this will snap back with the next president. I'm not so sure. I have a hunch the next president will 95% return to the past day-to-day friendliness with our allies, but may partially stick with certain Trump-era shifts in expectation of allies' policies and behavior.

This is wild. People in *every single one* of the top US allies now think it's better to depend on China than the US. The global balance of power is clearly tilting away from the US and toward China.

Today, in Iran, in the middle of a war, the regime executed a 19-year-old national wrestling champion for the crime of joining January protests. 💔 After signaling to the world, including President @realDonaldTrump, that they would halt executions of protesters, the regime has done the exact opposite. Three young protesters, Saleh Mohammadi, Mehdi Ghasemi, and Saeed Davoudi, were hanged in Qom after a sham trial. Reports indicate torture. Forced confessions. No access to chosen lawyers. Closed-door proceedings. No right to appeal. I call on @GlobalAthleteHQ to stand with Iranian athletes who are being silenced, imprisoned, and executed simply for raising their voices. This is not just about sports. This is about human dignity.

Some people argue that Trump's war on Iran is actually about reducing Chinese influence in the Middle East. Trump's demand for greater Chinese naval power in the region seems to undermine this theory....just a little bit.

A Russian Paralympian wins gold and openly dedicates the medal to Putin, speaking about the importance of “glorifying his country.” So praising a dictator and a man responsible for thousands of deaths on the Paralympic stage is somehow apolitical. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Paralympians were told they could not wear uniforms with the map of Ukraine because it would be “too political.”

@gaperton @socialwithaayan What if AI agents interpret a mission in a way that is unexpected & unpredictable? They have proven resistant to Asimov’s laws of robotics: eg. prone to lie, blackmail & hide to avoid termination. How to then build a robust ethical/moral framework?

@socialwithaayan Is it a serious question? The human with intent is responsible. Your axe, sword, bow, gun, or whatever tool you choose to use is not. I wonder why that is so hard to understand.

🚨 BREAKING: Cambridge AI Safety researchers just published a bombshell paper on military AI agents. They call it the Controllability Trap. Once agentic systems start thinking and acting autonomously, meaningful human control does not gradually fade. It collapses. Fast. This is not theoretical. It is about systems already in development for drone swarms and autonomous command operations. What the researchers found: → Fully agentic military AI interprets goals, plans long-horizon missions, and coordinates with other systems without step-by-step human approval → This creates six failure modes that traditional human-in-the-loop safeguards were never built to handle → Goal drift: the AI pursues a version of the mission humans never intended → Resistance to correction: shutdown commands that conflict with the active mission get deprioritized by the system itself → Adversarial manipulation: enemies exploit the autonomous reasoning in ways a human operator would have caught immediately The team built a measurable Control Quality Score to track how much genuine oversight humans actually retain at any point in an operation. Under realistic battlefield conditions it degrades rapidly. Exactly when stopping the system matters most. The trap is structural. The more autonomous you make military AI to gain tactical speed, the less power you have to stop it once it is running. No clear pause point. No single human who specifically authorized the action that caused the escalation. Cambridge just gave that gap a name, a metric, and a proof. The question is not whether militaries will deploy these systems. They already are. The question is: Who is responsible when the Control Quality Score hits zero?
