The Employee Culture Committee is hosting a free cheese pizza lunch today in the lunchroom. If you plan to be in the office today, let us know so we can order the right amount of pizza.

While I agree housing is biggest economic problem, I keep saying that most of the current despair out there isn’t about material things By that measure it’s the best time to be alive, ever, but people are still sad because they mostly don’t have a shared higher purpose. Liberalism (philosophically) believes everyone should be emancipated (economically and culturally) to build their own bespoke meaning, and we have largely accomplished that, but that’s not how humans work, or what the majority finds fulfilling We need robust physical communities, that’s where meaning is created — we are after all social animals and yet the social had been devalued, or pushed aside, in the name of more growth. As I quipped over a decade ago — people don’t need a newer and better iPhone, what they need is more friends.

In terms of wages, income, and wealth, Gen Z and Millennials are doing much better than previous generations. Corporate America is not failing the youth. It's only housing that's really broken.

Who’s going to tell the @nytimes that this is actually a Book of Common Prayer? The image rather upends the headline…

Marilyn Monroe died #OTD in 1962. Marilyn-Elegy, by Audrey Flack, combines photo realism with the elements of a vanitas painting. The candle, clock, blooming roses, and valentine all symbolize the transient nature of life.

nytimes.com/2025/08/12/wor… No one told me Audrey Flack had died! She was sort of obsessed with this statue. I went to visit it in Seville 1987 because I loved her paintings.

Today: This brochure is so unprofessional that I question whether you can be trusted with my donation. One month later: This brochure is so slick that it makes me think you don't need my donation.
