His master’s thesis examined the role of labour unions in safeguarding employment rights, with a case study on the Uganda National Teachers’ Union. His research shows that while Uganda has a strong labour law framework through constitutional guarantees, statutory protections, and international conventions, enforcement remains weak. By exposing the gap between law and practice, his work highlights urgent reforms policymakers must addres. Well done Pius!

I still insist that our Courts must breathe life into the Law. This is an absurd decision. Elections go to the core of any democracy and they are a fundamental part of Constitutionalism and decency. Courts must adopt a holistic approach while handling Election matters, just like they have done overtime for Land matters. You can’t just dismiss an Election Petition Appeal merely because it was filed out of time and hide under the guise that you lack jurisdiction to extend time. You are a Court of Law and Justice. The High Court has unlimited original and appellate jurisdiction. For the High Court to state that a Rule of procedure ousts this jurisdiction is either a joke or a blatant disregard of its important authority. A Court must not unnecessarily feter its discretion/jurisdiction. Elections are very important and every player involved must treat them as such because they are the only chance that the people have to determine how they wish to be governed. Ugandans should not be deprived of this important right on mere legal technicalities. Article 1 of the Constitution grants all power to the people and provides that all authority in the state emanates from the people, who shall be governed through their will and consent. It is absurd that a Court quickly disposes of an Election Appeal without even looking into this important Constitutional provision. The Courts must remember that behind every Election action, there lies tens of thousands of Ugandan citizens who are being deprived of their right to determine Leaders of their choice in an election. That is not a situation which the framers of the Constitution envisaged. We can do better!
