The proper scientific name for the gas pedal in an electric car is "accelerator".
However, the scientific name for the other pedal is also "accelerator". Scientifically, "accelerate" means to "change speed", and both pedals do that.
Actually, "accelerate" means "change speed and direction" of the vector. The third accelerator in the car is erroneously named the "steering wheel".

i think the broken windows theory pretty observably matches what it’s like to be in different environments. in japan i notice i’m careful not to even leave a crumb anywhere, because everything is spotless and my model of the people tells me they’d strongly dislike crumbs anywhere. in a dirty neighborhood full of trash, i’d likely leave a dropped french fry or something.

This was 10 years ago so I'm a bit hazy on details now, but there were a few shots in this sequence that required a TB of RAM for water sims, and it was really late in production, so our solution was to cannibalize RAM from multiple machines and build some 1 TB RAM servers.
