i fucked up.
one of the biggest unlocks for us has been paying for top tier talent.
paying 6 figures (and even 7 figures now!) is scary until you see what elite talent actually does. then you realize it's stupid NOT to. the gap is insane.
talented people are actually underpriced.
so how did i fuck up?
our management team gets massive bonuses if they crush. our sales team is pure commission. everything is performance based.
and then i made a job posting for video editors, with a low base and no performance bonus.
i've realized: flat salaries for editors make no sense. we're fixing that.
what if we paid editors based on output, with uncapped upside? say, an $85k+ base but room to make $100-120k, or more?
most fast editors have never been paid like one.
where do elite editors hang out? we're looking.

I've never been more terrified to record an episode of the @chaddukes show than I am today. I was less stressed before the Holiday Hoot and that's saying a lot. I don't know why I agreed to take an IQ test and then record an episode for it but it's clear I'm an idiot.

@AramideOyekunle 2026: Just got notified of a DECREASE and then was told I am a "valued asset." I explained that I don't believe they know what that word means. I did thank them for allowing me the opportunity to job shop, which hasn't occured to me in the seven years I've been with them.

Employee: I have found a company with a 90% base salary increase and guaranteed salary promotions as long as I meet my performance goals.

Employee: Unfortunately Monday is my last day.
Every employee is motivated by something different, so if you can hone in on that and encourage it you can almost guarantee you won’t run into this problem. Take care of your team.
