High Self Assessment revenue collection hinges on an efficient central tax authority (FBR) and it’s capability to induce voluntary compliance. The 25k workforce remains redundant as long as it fails to achieve this. Taxpayers in the jurisdictions mentioned by the author self assess on the premise that any misdeclaration will be caught, and have consequences. Has our 25k strong central authority managed to achieve that? You cite IMF FA: ‘The effectiveness of the audit function should not be measured in terms of tax receipts derived from assessments. What should be gauged is the extent to which it contributes to voluntary compliance.’ This is precisely right. We need to guage how much this 25k’s efficiency has contributed to ‘voluntary tax compliance’. It really hasn’t. Furthermore, rampant corruption continues to plague the FBR ranging from percentage commissions in Large Taxpayer Offices (LTO) to junior level enforcers. @Huk06 It doesn’t, though. A Sunni Muslim in 🇵🇰 can only will up to 1/3rd of his estate. Rest distributed as per inheritance law. And a bequest in a will can’t be to someone who is already a legal heir (ie son or daughter) unless all your other legal heirs consent AFTER your death.

If you have a daughter and you want her to be taken care of, give her, her share when you’re alive. At the very least leave a clear will. A will supersedes inheritance law. This way you can evenly and fairly divide your property and assets.
