Retired projects guy, religious mongrel and hopeless cynic. A mere spectator, but I'll hold your coat if you want.

@ellipsis5 @SorchaEastwood Perhaps you'll post the permission the poor girl's family gave you to speak on their behalf. On second thoughts, don't bother. You don't care.

@naomi_long The new UUP leader was previously Head of Discipline in the PSNI & it would be assumed part of that role was ruling on unacceptable behaviours in the workplace. I wonder if he will call this out.

@AmandaFBelfast @barryjflack @nick_gawa If the roots are linked through Ulster & Scotland, where are the Scottish roots represented? The title itself claims dual heritage but only the Ulster bit is being promoted, not the Scots. 🤔 Incidentally, I can trace my mother's side back to Ayrshire via Monaghan and Belfast.

@irish_news Ne Temere was a decree not exclusive to RoI. My Portadown father was excommunicated when marrying my mother in 1948, despite agreeing to baptise & raise their children Catholic. Its insidious primary purpose was to intimidate Catholics from inter marrying, conversion was next.

"In truth, Irish Protestants were widely viewed as barely-Christian, non-Irish interlopers. No wonder the Irish Protestant comedian and television presenter Graham Norton said that he “felt more of an outsider in Ireland being Protestant than being gay”." Read David Adams: tinyurl.com/4b3pxr9f

@irish_news PSNI will likely publish the list of invitees & the community groups they represent. It will be interesting to see the community group JB will be representing.

@_paulrodgers Just had a health scare, got thinking about my final 'disposal' so had a family conversation. It was good fun. Only detail I'll reveal is that my last song will be 'Travellin' In Style'. 'Just my blues guitar, that's all I need'. My 50 year old Les Paul inspired by Koss ❤🎸

@60sPsychJukebox When I was 14 Koss & Peter Green were the reasons I had to get a Les Paul. Joined my first band at 17 & had my baby when I was 20. Still give him 50 years later. Free & the original Fleetwood Mac still give me tingles.

March 19th 1976 - Remembering Former Free guitarist, 26 year old Paul Kossoff, died of heart failure while on a flight across the US. He had been troubled with heart disease most of his life. At age nine, Kossoff started classical guitar lessons with Blanche Monroe. His classical guitar training continued until he was fifteen. In December 1965, he saw Eric Clapton with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers at The Refectory, Golders Green, North West London. This encounter inspired him to purchase a Gibson Les Paul guitar. During 1966, Kossoff worked as a junior salesman at Selmer's Music Shop in Charing Cross Road. He received lessons from session guitarist Colin Falconer, who worked in the guitar department at Selmer's.

@JonBurrowsMLA The only 'seizing' is of hankies to stifle the laughter. Everyone's pissing themselves, not point scoring.

It’s so revealing - Donald Trump’s words are to be ignored until he says something you can seize on for point scoring. Whilst some are promoting Northern Ireland on the global stage, others are fixating on trivial nonsense. Focus on jobs - not jokes.

@bagshaw2112 It screams 1970 but my head says 69. Billy Preston, I started a new school in 70, but Credence? I'll stay with my gut. 1970!

@mgtruth @mclaren_linzi @williamcrawley In her early days I couldn't stand her smaltzy glam stuff but she is an incredible musician & I'm a big admirer, if still not a big fan. Her charity work is phenomenal though, & she's humble despite her wealth & fame.

I don’t know any historians of the US who agree with this statement. Note: Jackson’s role in slavery and the forced removal of Native American communities (see: Trail of Tears”). “Andrew Jackson has for a long time been regarded by many as THE greatest American president …”

@mgtruth @mclaren_linzi @williamcrawley They only 'celebrate' her here because of her fame. She contributes so much back into her community, providing free books for poor kids in Appalachia (& beyond) to help them read & write & get out of poverty. That's what should really be celebrated back 'home'.

@mgtruth @mclaren_linzi @williamcrawley Dolly talks about her Scotch-Irish roots & growing up in poverty in the Tennessee hills. Here they only talk about presidents, civil war 'heroes' & people with knives named after them, while the poor folk are ignored. Unless they get rich & famous like Dolly, then they're grand.

@bagshaw2112 When I was a child growing up in the 50s/60s, my Mum said 'poof' for a fart. A common question in our living room was, "Ok, who poofed?" There were six of us under suspicion. Innocent times.

Micheál Martin had a very difficult gig today. He did exceptionally well with the orange toddler and seemed to command some respect. He did as well as anyone could have. And those saying otherwise have no idea of realpolitik.
