@ArtOfPilgrim I found Blender Proportional Editing quite convenient as it is, but from this video I thought that it would be great to be able to assign vertex group values from this soft selection values directly, instead of just assigning value=1 and then smoothing it in weight paint

Soft Selection visualiser for Blender - I really don't understand why this isn't an option to enable in the Viewport Overlays.

@ArtOfPilgrim Modos Soft Selection is a different from the proportional edit. Radial Falloff in Modo does what Proportional edit in Blender does. x.com/Khellstr3D/sta…

@foerster_bryan @ArtOfPilgrim Soft Selection, as in Modo, is not same as proportional editing. Propotional edit uses straight, shortes distance in 3D space from the active element. Soft Selection uses geodesic distance, the distance that follows the surface.

Thanks to lots of help from Campbell, I contributed my first Blender feature! You can now choose where to stop loops. This lets you select through boundary n-gons, stop at seams, or stop at sharp edges. Will be useful for both retopology and UVs.

Much of the time mesh is too dense to simulate as a soft-body in Blender. In those cases simply add a lattice and run the soft body sim on the lattice instead. Works especially well with the new "Lattice Deform Selected" option in #b3d 5.0
