@elonmusk @Tesla Everyone talks about the same geniuses: Einstein, Newton or Hawking. But for me, there is one man who stands above them all: NIKOLA TESLA. Sadly, his legacy was a heartbreaking tragedy.

We named @Tesla after Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest engineers ever. He was a penniless immigrant whose inventions led to American dominance in electricity generation and usage.

@jronald This is the best tv show hands down. They don’t make them like this anymore. High water mark.

@pitdesi It’s also built out of a Mercedes-Benz factory on the French / German border that Ineos acquired lock, stock and barrel (including all tooling and workforce).

Did a double-take at our neighbors new SUV. Looks a bit like an OG LR Defender but obviously isn't. It's an Ineos Grenadier. Fun story: Ineos is the 4th largest chemical co in the world, >$20B revs. So why did they start making a car? The CEO Jim Ratcliffe (recently famous for buying 25% of Manchester United) loved his Defender, which Land Rover stopped making in 2016 after a 33 year run with the same body type. Tata bought Jaguar Land Rover and wanted to focus the brands on luxury, the Defender didn't quite fit with their plans. Jim was so upset about it that he decided to put part of his fortune (estimated at $30B) into building a spiritual successor to the Defender. He first tried to buy the rights and factory from Land Rover... but Tata wouldn't sell them. That original plan actually would have fit in well with the Ineos core business, which is buying chemical plants that other companies wanted to discard and then running them more efficiently. Since Tata wouldn't give up the rights, he decided to make his own version. He came up with the idea at his favorite pub in London, the Grenadier (which he subsequently ALSO bought - it's now owned by Ineos) and so it had a name - the Ineos Grenadier. He wanted something similar to the old Defender- with boxy, military-style ruggedness, extremely utilitarian. The problem with a utilitarian car is that they just aren't great for driving on streets, which is what most buyers do. So it's an enthusiasts car. I do like all that tactile buttons and switches instead of just a huge touchscreen. They did a good job of mixing in a screen with old-school cool buttons, a real modern throwback. Ratcliffe has spent >$1B on the effort - the company has been running in deep losses. They hope to sell 15,000 of them a year, at $75-100k a pop... so it'll likely be a while before they recover the capital put in. Looks fun, but still feels like a CEO pet project. I think I'd be more likely to buy a new Land Cruiser personally... but excited to drive one of these things off-road.

@trengriffin 100%. A couple of other highly recommended tests which most people should get. First is APO-B which checks for cholesterol that the standard lipid panel doesn’t. And Lp(a) - a completely independent genetic risk factor that greatly increases risk of CVD.

My triple bypass operation was 12 years ago to be clear. I just wanted to remind people to take any potential heart attack symptoms seriously. I had zero chest pain. The symptoms I experienced were very mild, but odd. I did know that I have a family history of heart disease.
Tren Griffin@trengriffin

One Friday night years ago I experienced bilateral pain in both biceps. I went to the ER and they took a tiny drop of blood from one finger. A test revealed a tiny marker level for heart damage, but it wasn't zero. An angiogram the next day showed problems. Triple bypass Monday.

Non-Consensus View: The visit of China’s premier js a symbolic bending of the knee. China is capitulating. @balajis is not reading this correctly Why? China is hurting. - China’s currency is under pressure as capital leaves at the fastest rate in 7 years - FDI is down to 1998 levels - Exports are down significantly due to friend-shoring - Semiconductor export controls are not yet throttling China…but they have come up to the line - China’s Ali Baba and tech leadership cannot get their hands on advanced GPU chips - China’s birth rate continues a decline that spells industrial mediocrity Why visit California? And meet a ‘Provincial Governor’? California is the state whose IP is most at risk of corporate espionage. And China needs US semiconductor designs. What about US Bonds? Sec’y Yellen has ‘intensified’ talks with her finance counterpart. The US needs to sell bonds at better rates. The US can then also import from China. The capital account and current account worked together beautifully for decades. And Semiconductors? China imports more semis than Oil. And the US is controlling exports, but not killing GPU exports. That would be the next escalation - it’s a clear threat. China is pouring more money into semiconductor startups than the US. But the US and Taiwan have the technical leadership and edge… too little too late. China and US Relations? Visits don’t often happen without some news announcements - trade deals, understandings, or a rapprochement. Engagement is constructive. They are bargaining on American soil. The China Premier is making Nixon’s trip to China many decades ago a complete circle. The symbolism is thick and my have substance.
