@RakeshSFNYC Gross… doing the math, that’s as expensive as gasoline… I get ~240mi on 100%, … or 3mi per kWh (82 in my battery)… $50 for 200 miles ain’t great, bob.

Costco violating its own value principles. With its electrify America partnership, it’s charging an absurd amount for energy. 62c/kWh is high, even for CA. (EA generally has the most expensive rates I’ve seen.) Costco gas is known to be about 10c a gallon cheaper. This is the opposite of its value anchor of the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo. I didn’t actually use this charger; just went up to it to check the price. (As a Costco, pricing, strategy and EV nerd.)

@federalbaseball Depends on what you want out of the year… they want to keep garcia’s bat for the long-term at the expense of wins this year. If you think you’re a playoff team, it’s a different thought process.

@conorsen “15 minutes of action crammed into 2.5 hours” used to be a derogatory. But, 15m*15 games is a lot of action. 2.5h is a good amount of time for in-person experience … it works all around

An underrated factor in the baseball resurgence is it’s a sport well-suited to algorithmic short-form video content — lots of interesting random unique 15-60 second moments happen every day.

Wow. After all that buildup, the frontal passage here in the Richmond, VA area was ~very~ uneventful. Just a couple minutes of heavy rain. No wind at all. 🤔 Unless something else is brewing looks like we got off easy.

A severe line of storms popping off tornadoes in the Central Carolinas while it's unloading SNOW in the mountains? It would be incredibly ignorant to say it's not going to happen. No reason to speak in absolutes about a dynamic storm system like this one. A secondary low could pop off (likely will) & enhance moisture over the mountains which would lead to a wild scenario. I don't know about heavy snow all the way down to Atlanta like what this shows, but I wouldn't rule out flakes flying around in Southern states tomorrow afternoon. It literally hit the upper 80s in the Mid Atlantic just last week with the same areas experiencing accumulating snow under 24 hours later. So something like this is totally possible.. INSANE weather stuff can happen when a system gets negatively tilted..

“Software will just be English language specs and LLMs will write assembly!” Buddy, we’re still arguing about what the Bill of Rights means 235 years later. You have to deal with the nuance and the edge cases. In no future does this burden evaporate. Programming languages exist as a concrete bridge between the spec and the executable program. Human and machine can both read and reason about the code. It’s where the nuance is resolved. “Oh we’ll just deal with the nuance in the spec” 235 years and we still don’t know who is allowed to say what when or carry a gun how and where. “The LLM will sort it out” Oh yeah people love it when things occasionally fail for opaque and Byzantine reasons.

@LDrogen What you do with tech is always a choice. I’m not trying to run a polity, so I am not going to come up with an alternative in 240 characters. But, I do not believe the populace will support giving free $ without massive, massive social upheaval.

I do think Citrini shifted the Overton Window on AI/labor -- it's just a thing everyone's going to be looking for in the data from here on.

@RakeshSFNYC you’re not trusted to keep your email secure; email is slower, junk filters, etc. Also, ownership, sim swap, number ports, etc. can be checked if high risk txn. I wish tOTP or passkeys were more widely supported.

How did we decide that phone numbers are immutable for 2FA? They seem secure (they’re not). SS7 exploits, SIM swaps, social engineering are all know attack vectors. Making them the only option is a terrible idea. With TLS, email is more secure. Especially if it is a major provider like Gmail.

@conorsen This second point is… massive in SWEng … outside of AI/ML roles, pure CS is losing value. O(n) versus O(log n) who cares? Knowing to tell the AI to iterate through algorithms until it finds the fastest one for my API endpoint? Extremely important.

-The typical tech company is being asked to obliterate its free cash flow to chase AI, or its terminal value is now incredibly uncertain -- that's a tough one for investors -Most knowledge workers are now much less certain about their employment prospects 2+ years out

@conorsen I’ve never skied but there needs to be a lower stakes, less expensive set of options to try it out because the only options seem to be long lines at pricey Park City/Vail resorts or some isolated places in West Virginia. My guess is places in NH, WI, MI, western VA could try.
