@oshino_sasuke While a westerner who has a culture based on conscience and confessing to your sins see the Japanese and think: "If you are pirating anyways, at least have the honor to admit it." It is fundamentally a different culture.

@azukiglg After literal decades upon decades of this kind of neglectful attitude, people became very very comfortable with piracy because they weren't being offered other options.

売り方が悪いんだ〜 メーカーが悪いんだ〜 ……などと "俺が海賊版を買っても仕方ない理由"を必死に考えてる人って 2~3個不満が解決しても 次の言い訳を探すだけだから意味ないよ。

One of my favorite anime is Crayon Shin-chan. Unfortunately, despite being one of the most popular IPs ever in Japan, Westerners don't have access to Crayon Shin-chan in any official capacity. Do you really think I should just wait and hold out hope that TV Asahi will finally release officially translated subbed episodes when they haven't once tried since the anime released in the Heisei era? Thanks to fan-sub groups and piracy, I can enjoy Crayon Shin-chan. And, because of my exposure to the anime, I do buy official merch--Nendoroids, dinnerware, pens, keychains, etc. The money I spend on that merch goes to shareholders of TV Asahi, as well as Usui Yoshito's team, and more. If TV Asahi collaborated with a Western media distributor or streaming service, I wouldn't have to resort to piracy. I'd be glad to support an official release (as long as the localization of the translations aren't bastardized) because it's much more convenient to enjoy it that way. But I can't. So, what am I to do? I would hope that, if Usui Yoshito was still alive, that he would be glad that I'm a fan of Crayon Shin-chan, and be glad that there are fans overseas.
