When Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba declares that his hands are tied in disciplining errant school principals over illegal fee hikes, it raises a troubling question: if the top authority cannot act, who will protect parents and learners from exploitation?

@georgenjoroge_ Cleaning Nairobi has an initial economic and social cost - including 'our people are being targeted' political costs.
If Kenyans are still not ready for those costs. A clean Nairobi Metropils will have to wait.
English

Stop blaming the budget.
Kigali runs on half of what Nairobi receives and it is spotless, organized and functional.
The difference is not money.
The difference is not resources.
The difference is not infrastructure.
The difference is us.
We are corrupt.
We are undisciplined.
We litter, we bribe, we steal public funds, we elect thieves and then complain about the results of electing thieves.
Nairobi is not a city that needs more money.
Nairobi needs people who are ashamed of what they have allowed it to become.
Until that day comes no amount of funding will fix what is fundamentally a character problem. 😐

English

Good afternoon patriots. Here is one of the most painful doses of anger that I am delivering. It pains a lot because I have to administer it knowing that our being as citizens matters less to the political class.
So a mother and her son drowned crossing a bridge in Uasin Gishu. Ten Kenyans have died from rains across different parts of the country. Every year the rains come. Every year the bridges flood. Every year Kenyans die crossing the same broken infrastructure. And every year the government is surprised.
Meanwhile the President, the man whose government is constitutionally responsible for every one of those broken bridges, was busy this week expressing a different kind of grief entirely. Not for the dead. For the unregistered. His people, he lamented, have let him down by not registering as voters for his 2027 re-election bid. That is what is keeping William Ruto up at night. Not the bodies. The ballot numbers.
Ten people died in floods and the President's emergency is voter registration.
A mother and child drowned on a bridge that needed fixing and the President's wound is insufficient political loyalty from his own community.
This is the clearest possible picture of what Kenyans are worth to this government. You are not a citizen to be protected. You are a voter to be mobilised. Your bridge does not matter until it can be commissioned at a rally. Your death does not register until it can be blamed on the opposition.
They will not resign. They will issue a condolence in passive voice, return to the campaign, and ask for your vote on a road they never repaired.
This is not a natural disaster. This is a policy decision with a body count. And the President is annoyed you haven't registered to reward him for it.
Stay angry and beat the hell out of politicians because they care less about us.
Dismas wa Tabu. Dreaming in installments. Billed in full.

@moseskariuki @baroswahjr This is a stupid argument in support of a blatant rip off.
Teachers are paid a salary like everyone else.
English

@baroswahjr Instead of Complaining where other visionary parents came up with strategies to boost results, why not take our children to those schools charging no extra....and just talk to teachers to work harder and post similar results.
English

Let's visit MARYHILL GIRLS,
Term 1 school fees is Kshs 33,610
Term 2 school fees is Kshs 19,847
Term 3 school fees is Kshs 15,097
Total per year is Kshs 68,554.
Easy. Right? Let's go to EXTRA LEVIES.
Extras:
1. School Motivation - Kshs 7,000 per term. That makes it Kshs 21,000 per year. For some classes it's Kshs 5,500 x 3 which is Kshs 16,500
2. Class motivation - Kshs 3,000 per term. This totals Kshs 9,000 per year.
3. Development - Kshs 20,000 per year
4. Enhancement program - Kshs 7,000 per year
5. KFC - Kshs 1000. You ask what is KFC? The parents visit the school once every term. This day the school buys KFC chicken for the girls at a cost of Kshs 1,000 per term. In a year it's Kshs 3,000.
Total Extra Levies is Kshs 69,000
Total amount to keep your daughter at MARYHILL GIRLS is Kshs 69,000 + Kshs 68,554.
It Totals Kshs 137,554
And here they don't joke. There is no room for negotiation. No diplomacy.
As early as Term 1 on induction day, you are told utafute shule ingine mapema kama umeskia huwezani.
Here, parents talk in hushed tones.

@Lynch_MT @baroswahjr Parents are being held to ransom by luxury seeking teachers. Right?
Alliance Girls had been a top performer way before Dubai became a tourist destination.
Let them retaliate and we see how far that goes. They will all be removed from Alliance.
English

@baroswahjr A double edged sword
Stealing from parents is outrightly bad
But if the teachers who enjoy benefits like trips to Dubai retaliate, it would end badly.
I've seen schools where unmotivated teachers show up in class gloomy, reads notes and step out. Nothing more.
English

At Alliance Girls, it's not just the Principal who is in hot soup.
The CS Education is going for the entire board. Raising school fees from 53K to 160K is crazy. But looking at what made it get to that figure is crazier.
1. Moral and Spiritual activities - Kshs 1,100,000
2. Annual trips - Kshs 16,000,000
3. Prize Giving/Speeches - Kshs 13,000,000
4. Prize vouchers/sweets/examiners - Kshs 5,000,000
5. Airtime /administrative allowance - Kshs 3,000,000
On 16th October 2025, the board approved a Kshs 25,000,000 staff trip to Dubai.
You can guess where the money was to come from.

@Karey_k_ @WehliyeMohamed You got a great deck for justifying a rip off. It makes you sound like someone who's part of the rip off enterprise.
English

@koliech @WehliyeMohamed Yes. To feed 2000 girls a balanced diet. To finance science, music and art labs, sports...you want an A+ experience for 95bob. How?
English
@WehliyeMohamed Former Heads of these top High Schools accumulate the kind of capital that affords them residence in Karen - that lifestyle is inconsistent with their known legit income.
Even most senior lecturers and professors can't afford that lifestyle.
English

@koliech I don't know. My points
1. Not only AGHS charges more. Almost all do
2. Government capitation isn't enough & reliable
English
@WehliyeMohamed Public High Schools should not charge per student fees that are higher than public universities.

@rizzolosophy I'm with this guy.

@citizentvkenya Nairobi School should be NEXT. @TSC_KE
They have added an illegal Ksh 21,000 - 7K/Term.
English
@ivymuthe Yes. There is an economic-evolutionary term for this phenomenon: 'Assortative Selection/ Marriage' or 'Assortarive Mating'

Allan Chesang watching his wife, Chanelle Kittony, deliver a speech. Chanelle is the daughter of Kiprono Kittony and granddaughter of Zipporah Kittony. The couple tied the knot in 2025.Nowadays, money flows to money. Coming from a humble background makes it difficult to marry into a wealthy family. Rich families often conduct thorough background checks before allowing their daughters to marry. Similarly, a wealthy man tends to choose a wife from a similar affluent background — someone already accustomed to money — so she won’t be tempted to take photos of cash in the bedroom and post them on social media.

@micaiah_muthee @Disembe Check your history notes again.
What @Disembe has said is factual.
The person who worked hardest towards the collapse of EAC was the forever-evil Charles Njonjo.
English

The Kikuyus who broke up the EAC were so shortsighted.
They chose Kikuyu supremacy over one East Africa. They limited the opportunities of other Kenyans while contributing to fierce competition and then using tribalism to ward off others — the fake fallout in 1966 etc. By 1969 they were chocking us with assassinations and oaths.
Kenya must do more to hasten the pace of EAC integration and future political federation.
