If kissing someone doesn’t make you feel this way, don’t do it in the first place. It’s an entire misunderstanding to think you can have „a unit of kisses“ or „a unit of sex“, it’s inherently from someone, relational between two selves, and laden with meaning. Humans are metaphysical animals and as such we also experience metaphysical damage, that’s what people mean when they say casual sex is bad for the soul. That’s why I laugh when women (can also happen to men) try to gaslight themselves — and I was such a woman — to „be more rational“ and accept when a man wants to be physical with them but doesn’t love them and doesn’t want a relationship. „I mean, he never implied verbally that he wanted any of this so I should not be too disappointed.“ Yeah, but he kissed you, he maybe even slept with you and then he also said some things. Gestures have meaning and express things, even more primordial than words as it does not just represent the meaning symbolically but embodies it directly. It is the meaning. He kissed you, he slept with you, but also doesn’t love or even like you and doesn’t want to see you again or a relationship? Of course you are confused and emotional, he basically said „I LOVE YOU, I DESIRE YOU, I don’t want to see you again, I don’t care one bit about you“. (Read up on the fourth axiom of communication by Watzlawick.) And then don’t allow romantic touch by people who don’t have romantic intentions to protect your gentle heart ❤️ It’s also okay if two people do indeed want such a more casual encounter, however the first rule is always to not fool yourself and, as Richard Feynman observed, you are the easiest person to fool. I think feminism in its normative form should serve women getting what they truly want. And they ought to want what is actually good for them and be honest with themselves what it is they want. For most this will result in an alignment with what Mary Harrington @moveincircles called reactionary feminism. Which brings me back to: If kissing someone doesn’t make you feel this way, don’t do it in the first place. Be gentle to your heart and theirs.
