Absolutely horrifying 🤯 This is how filthy the water has become in the United States for people living near Meta’s data centre. Water levels have dropped drastically, with very little pressure in the pipelines. Even people in rural areas are now forced to buy water not just for drinking but for bathing as well. Data centres require huge amounts of water for cooling. This is potentially what could happen to water resources in surrounding areas. India needs to be mindful of this before we build more data centres.

Sri Nara Lokesh garu is attempting to create confusion where there is none. The Congress party has consistently maintained that Southern states must never be punished for successfully implementing population control and delivering better human development outcomes. That is precisely why we opposed any delimitation exercise that could reduce the South’s relative voice in Parliament without iron-clad constitutional guarantees. Merely increasing the total number of Lok Sabha seats does not automatically protect Southern states. The real issue is RELATIVE representation and political influence under Article 81. Even if Andhra Pradesh gains seats numerically, the proportional strength and decision-making influence of Southern states can still diminish vis-à-vis heavily populated northern states. What is even more concerning is that the BJP-led Union Government never seriously explored alternative democratic models recommended by several constitutional experts — such as strengthening local governance institutions, devolving greater administrative and financial powers to states and local bodies, and deepening decentralisation. Instead, the Centre’s only visible solution has been increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats. At a time when Parliament itself is functioning less and less, this raises serious questions. Under the Narendra Modi government, the number of Lok Sabha sitting days has drastically declined. Voices from Southern states are already being marginalised in national discourse. If the House is expanded without protecting federal balance and parliamentary functioning, individual representation and meaningful debate will weaken even further. The BJP-led NDA never provided a clear constitutional guarantee that the South’s political weight would be protected permanently. Instead, it attempted to push through a framework first and ask questions later. It is therefore ironic that the TDP, which once championed federalism and Southern interests, is now defending the BJP’s ambiguous position without demanding explicit safeguards for Andhra Pradesh and the South. The Congress party’s stand is clear: Protect federal balance. Protect Southern representation. Protect cooperative federalism. India’s democracy cannot become a system where states that governed better are politically penalised for their success.
