@ImSh4yy That said, my own (broad) view in software is that quality enables fast shipping, and sacrificing quality for short term speed will eventually catch up on you and slow you down

@ImSh4yy Because Quality means different things to different people in different contexts. Speed is directly measurable but quality you can only measure proxies at best. Reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance helped me see how people talk past each other about quality

So much ship-fast talk and very little ship-quality talk.

@kyrylo @joshzandman My understanding is that its less about being "sleek" and more that its a visual cue that the logos aren't "primary" - ie, attention isn't to be drawn to them in the same way they would be used otherwise (as primary in the those logos' marketing materials)

@joshzandman SaaS landing pages often display their users to build trust, typically by showing company logos. It’s become common to make them dark or white for a sleek look.

Seeing some discourse about ADHD medication (particularly stimulants) on my timeline, and I want to talk about it a bit. I was very, very skeptical of stimulants to treat ADHD. There’s drug abuse in my family and I am a person who barely even takes Tylenol when I have pain, much less to go to amphėtamines. (I will be using weird characters for these medication names because otherwise I get spammed in the replies.) I did months of research and talked to 4 doctors/psychiatrists, as well as multiple people who have ADHD and are on stimulants to get their experiences. I encourage you to go beyond the initial reactions and tweets if you suspect you have ADHD. Do a lot of research and talk to experts. And don’t put anything in your body that you don’t understand. I am on 40mg vyvǎnse and a non stimulant as well (guǎnfacine). The stimulant makes your body produce the neurotransmitters/hormones dopamine and norepinephrine, which give you motivation, sense of well-being, alertness, focus, and more. Having ADHD means your body doesn’t produce enough of those, and so you end up often doing things that stimulate dopamine without realizing it — twitter addiction being one of them. Scrolling your timeline or putting out tweets that get attention stimulates dopamine production so you feel better. For me, I would do the twitter thing, eat too much, work too much, etc. It was problematic for my health and relationships. It was hard for me to direct my attention to the things that I needed to. With medication I am able to focus and my wife says I am more attentive, happier, and more. At work I’ve been able to be much more effective too — it’s been one of my best years. Vyvǎnse can be addictive, of course, but is actually somewhat unique in that it’s a prodrug that gets converted rather than directly absorbed. It’s not měth — they are part of the same family but there are pretty significant differences in how they affect us. And having ADHD means that a low dose stimulates to a normal level, not to a euphoric level. This is apparently controversial, but it’s something that every doctor I’ve talked to confirms, and mirrors my own experience. I’m not feeling euphoria when I take it. I just feel more motivated and alert and whatnot over the course of a day. I take medication breaks (like I did yesterday) and have regular doctor checkups and am extremely motivated to not have this be something that would become addictive. I think it’s absolutely fine to draw the line and not want to take a stimulant to treat your adhd, as I did for years. And it’s also fine to evaluate that path as well. Several people close to me have started taking stimulants for their ADHD and it’s changed their lives positively and dramatically. Don’t let tweets (including this one) form your whole opinion on the subject. Do the research yourself and talk to professionals. In particular, ignore those who make this out to be laziness and a moral failing. I’ve heard for years that my inattentiveness, forgetfulness, and difficulties completing tasks is simply laziness and a moral failure, and I’ve done so many things to try to fix it, only to be sabotaged by my own body. I no longer listen to those people. They don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. My replies here and DMs are open if you have further questions. (Just avoid writing the names of the medications so the spam bots don’t flood in please.)

@techsavvytravvy @pgdj88 OOOooo that makes sense! temp as a variable- does that imply you're simulating germanium transistors instead of silicon, since they're more temperature sensitive? (sorry this has turned into an AMA)
