So it has happened! A friend's dad had an Agusta chopper. There was an issue and the technical people could not resolve it, he got a local mechanic,( not making this up), to fix the chopper and he got it back in the skies!! @Sudhanshu_I_N_D

@dhh Same here in India, 1 Gbps is super cheap and we host a ton of stuff using a M4 mini sitting on my desk serving thousands of requests per hour with an uptime of over 99.8 percent over time. Add some cloudfront and cloudflare speed ups and you are all set!

It's a modern marvel that I can get a 2.5gbit fiber connection here in Copenhagen for a measly $80/month. With latency of just a few ms to any server in the city! We could have run Basecamp well into the tens of millions of ARR on a pipe like this.

I think otherwise, it’s about time. Sure Google has invested in Chrome but it’s also held up so many things which would affect it’s market share. Chrome is mature enough to begin a life outside Google. In fact, Gmail needs to be sold off as well. Email market needs a shake up. It’s turned into a monopoly.

Forcing Google to sell Chrome is just stupid. We already have plenty of alternatives, like Firefox and Chromium. All the value in Chrome is that Google is incentivized to CONTINUE to invest heavily in moving the web forward. It's a classic wealth v riches misunderstanding.

I have been doing this for the past year over 20k requests and hour on the M4 mini sitting on my desk, dual internet connection and power backup. Have had an uptime of over 99 over the past few months. It’s not too hard technically but you need to interested in tinkering. Cloud bill went down from $150-$200 to $4 a month.

To give you an idea of how expensive cloud has gotten, I picked up a server off FB marketplace today for $500. 128Gb of RAM and a 1Tb SSD. It will cost about $6/month in electricity to run it. An equivalent server in AWS would cost $950/mo. so I'll have payback in two weeks. I'm going to buy a GPU for $600, and the cost of that in AWS would be about $350/mo. I think if someone created a distributed garage hosting network it would kill it.

@IndianTechGuide Shenzen prospered because of being close to hong Kong financial markets and a huge port. So it has to be some place with a big port and near a financial hub. That area is above Mumbai towards the new largest port in india, vadhavan port.

Which Indian city has the potential?

The city’s current state does not matter, it needs to be coastal for exports and just like Shenzen was influenced by Hong kong, it needs to be near a big metropolitan area to provide it the catchment area. So most likely the area outside Mumbai towards Vadhavan port would be ideal.

It’s time for a Shenzhen equivalent city in India….
