Is it really that big of a deal? Hendricks wanted to develop pitchers, cubs didn’t have that opening. Cubs have plenty of ambassadors. It’s not like Heyward was an all-time favorite. Fans tolerated him because he played hard, contributed to the community. I highly doubt he’s be a cubs Hall of Famer.

I watched nearly every Keith ride at Oaklawn, and there are certain horses he rides well. His big problem at Oaklawn, at least, is his main objective is to save ground st all costs, which is not the way to go at Oaklawn. The problem at Oaklawn is when you break from the inside and can’t get out before the turn, you are cooked.

@SamOlbur The big thing for me is to avoid gut-punch losses like in 2023 and 2024. Right now, the Cubs are in lull, and have been soundly beaten. Not much to question. Much rather endure this then a succession of blown leads and walkoff losses. Let’s see what Shota and Brown can do.

@AndersPicks He’s going to have to get into the mid 500s, make at least 3 -4 more All-Star teams, play in another WS and end his career as the postseason HR leader, all of which are attainable. There is very little he can do about BA at this point. My biggest concern right now is the K rate.

Travis' call was fantastic. Caught Golden Tempo about as early as you could. People on here giving him shit yesterday, guys been unreal for over a decade at the top level.

22.68 is fast. Go look at the years when the opening quarter is 22.68 and I think you’ll see it’s a closers race. Plus, there was a whole bunch of horses within 3 lengths. It just happens. The Derby is such a unique races. Horses not accustomed to being close don’t always respond well taken back and having dirt kicked in their face.

@DanWolken Anytime you see the opening quarter under 23, it’s going to be a closers’ race, and anybody within 5 lengths of the 22.68 is going to be cooked. The Japanese horse didn’t win, but he ran an amazing race.

Having now watched the Derby replay a few times, I’m a little confused how the race melted down so much on the front end when the pace wasn’t really that hot by Derby standards.
